Well, I went to my first Friday Night Lights (FNL) event. Just got back about two hours ago. Logged onto rivals and found that Mack Brown (Rivals #56 prospect and #6 RB) from GA has given a commitment to FL. Apparently, this FNL event has set the standard for attracting top talent to a camp. Accordind to rivals, there were 7 (out 17) 5 start recruits in attendance, 18 of the top 100, and 14 more from 101 to 250. I was glad to hear about all the talent, but it really wasn't a spectator sport. There were at least two hundred kids on the field running position-specific drills. WRs and DBs faced off in one on one matchups, while QB prospects tossed to them. The only problem is that these players only had a jersey number (many of which went well into the 300's). In other words, you just didn't know who was who. I did see a couple impressive specimens, one of which I eventually found out was Ronald Powell (that guy is awesom). Urban was working his recruiting magic on him tonight - he barely left his side. Powell was shutting down most WRs in passing drills and burning DB's when he lined up as a WR. The impressive part is that he is a DE. I hope we can land him here at UF, but I suspect he will ultimately go to USC since he is from CA. I saw a couple impressive QB's (don't know if any were UF commit Trey Burton) and an impressive RB (don't know if it was Mack Brown). I know nothing is written in stone, but I am quite satisfied with Urban's recruiting progress. I will be very surprised if UF does not have one of the top 2 recruiting classes this upcoming year. Last year, we did well but only had about 16 spots available. This year we should land a good 25 to 27 recruits, half of which, if history is any indicator, will be in Rivals top 100.
