Brandon Charles Herron is really turning heads in practice but isnt getting much publicity anywhere else. As a redshirt Sophemore he has had two years to build up his body and prepare himself for this new Spinner position. We all assumed that Stevie would be the spinner but it looks like Stevie Brown is a linebacker and Herron is going to be the deathbacker.

Most recently weve gotten quotes like this

Birkett focused on Brandon Herron quite a bit, noting he (and RVB) got the best of Ortmann and Dorrestein in a couple drills—eek left tackle—and claiming he is "primed for a big season." I might switch my twitter wishing well request to this one.
And this

9. Brandon Herron - Redshirt Freshman - Quick/Deathbacker - A three star "tweener" DE/LB/S recruit out of Sugarland, TX, Herron redshirted to put on some weight. Honestly, no one really knew what to do with a linebacker who played DE, but was the size of a safety (6'2 198). Finally over the 200lb threshold, Herron is the presumed starter at the Quick/Deathbacker hybrid position (Stevie Brown is a Linebacker in total now). Herron's biggest assest at this position is quickness. He sheds blocks exceedingly well according to his high school scouting, possesses good lateral speed, and has good closing speed on the ball carrier. Another bonus? He's a very disciplined player. No jumping into someone else's assignment or missing his own lane. He's going to be a pain in the ass for opposing offenses all year.

I have heard from numerous sources that Herron is dominating the OLine. When he was recruited he was a project

One word to describe Herron: project. He's 6'2" and under 200 pounds. He plays defensive end for his high school. So he's the size of a safety, playing defensive end, and projected at linebacker. You can mark the redshirt in pen. If I could make an analogy, he's like Toney Clemons, if Clemons had spent much of his time playing running back.

But the upside was his athleticism

"Brandon is a carnival fair freak. There is not a drill that a coach put him through that he can't do better than anyone else."
that quote was from his coach

Everyone agreed that he had great athleticism and speed but he was the size of a Safety trying to play DE which is why he was reshirted. Now hes 220, still has that speed and is more athletic then before. Brandon's Graham and Minor are 2 of the best players on Michigans team but dont sleep on Brandon Herron or he will make you regret it

It's encouraging to hear things about new guys in the mix. I'm excited to see guys like Brandon! These are the most dangerous ones, they are normally out to prove something. Not highly recruited so they don't have the big-heads. Normally start out on special teams, etc. When they see that window of opportunity, they go after it 110% because it might not come around again...

Hopefully Brandon can help out the defense anyway possible, is it Sept. 5th yet?
