I'm just checking out the OSU - Navy game. And, it looks like Navy is doing ok thus far against that stellar OSU Defense. Granted, it's only the 1st quarter, but, Navy does seem to be moving the ball ok.
7-7 half way through the 1st quarter.
Buckeye field goal - 10-7 OSU. I think that OSU has the ability to move the ball - seemingly, easily. Navy holding OSU to a field goal was nice - I wonder how Navy will be able to move the ball this series, and the rest of the game.

Yeah, Navy is looking good. They are executing while controlling the clock. They keep this game close as long as they don't make any mistakes and turn the ball over. Same goes for tuos really. This one will go to the team that makes least mistakes.

TP looks like a completly different QB already. That is bad news for the Big Ten.

Navy's small lines are holding up ok. Too bad the passing game is non existent.

As Mark May pointed out their OL doesn't look good as they're having trouble with the much smaller Navy DL. Not good news with USC coming into town. Must be the nasty attitude Boren brought in.
As for TP, he does look much more like a college football QB. With that said most of his success is still due to his legs and the threat of his running, not to his arm.

I don't understand why Jimmy took TP out of the game in the 2nd quarter only being up 10 points. OSU's defense looks quick but their offense isn't too good. TP is completing passes because of his ability to avoid the sack. No defense can cover receivers forever.. eventually coverage is going to break down.
20-14 now.. this could turn into a ball game if OSU doesn't start scoring TD's in the red zone.

Ohio State 20 Navy 14, 1:20 minutes left 3rd quarter.
It's a good thing Ohio State isn't opening up against USC. They'd be getting their as ses kicked.

Touchdown Navy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ohio State 29 Navy 21.
Ohio State went for it on 4th and two. Navy stuffed them. Spielman was pissed that Ohio State couldn't run for the first down. He said the offensive line blocked terribly. The very next play Navy threw the bomb for a td.

Navy just missed on the two point conversion - that's a huge bummer.
And, I'm not so sure if TP looks that much different this game.

Navy doesn't get onside kick. This looks like it is over. Still an interesting game and not a very impressive one by OSU.

Had Navy just ran the ball on the 2 pt they probably would have tied the game. Oh well, good game Midshipmen. OSU has a lot of weaknesses but TP is still elusive as ever.

I have to agree with all the coaches - USC will be easier to get ready for. Navy plays a very unique style of football that you just cannot duplicate in practice. The Buckeyes really worked on things that they don't usally practice for this game. Navy uses chop blocks on the line the whole game - only Georgia Tech and Navy does that. The Navel offense is very methotical in its execution. They are completly happy gaining 4 yards per play - which they did. They put together long time consuming drives and always seem to be in the game. The Buckeyes did not go for the kill and let up a bit - typical opening week game for the Buckeyes.
I expect a much different Ohio State team next week. I see some problem areas that concern me - but they are fixable. I like what I see from TP. He threw the ball well and the wideouts looked good as well. Next week is HUGE for our confernce USC and ND must lose.

There are several reasons today's game did not bother me a bit.
1.) This is a very young team. As such, you can expect both incredibly highs and lows this season. They will most likely play like an all-world team one game (or possession), then immediately turn around and make basic errors the next that make both fans and coaches want to pull out their (remaining) hair. The Ohio State team of the past few years, which was consistent, but never really great, is gone. This team is going to go from looking unbeatable to unwatchable regularly.
2.) Navy is a tough team to play, ESPECIALLY as an opener. The Triple Option offense is notoriously difficult to stop when it is run properly, and the Midshipmen are run it as well as anyone in CFB, probably better. When you add the usual first game errors and inconsistancy, it can lead to a score like today. As for the offense, like mentioned above, it had it moments of looking superb, and others where it didn't.
3.) Playcalling was far from excellent, which has been a complaint for the last few years. However, even with the current scrutiny, I did not expect Tressel to show much of anything this week. As opposed to last year's team (which was basically the same as the year prior), this Buckeye team is something no one has seen, and I seriously doubt Tressel wanted to show the Trojans anything more than he had to this week. Of course, this was mentioned last year, and USC said Ohio State did nothing different than it did on film. I just hope that changes next week.
4.) The coaches were still looking for their "true" starting line-up. There was A LOT of substitutions going on out there today, especially on the much-maligned offensive line. Any unit has difficulty "gelling" in a game when individuals are constantly being shifted in and out of the game. I would think several of the SNAFU's today were a directly result of the substitutions.
5.) And finally, they won. A win is a win. Period.

I'm confused....
if the Triple Option is so great why aren't more schools playing it and why isn't Navy winning at least 10 games a season?
Youth is no excuse, you guys took that away from us last year.
Oh by the way congrats on pulling out a win.

I agree the triple option is difficult to defend but oSU still has better talent and athletes than Navy. Keep in mind ND had beaten Navy like 30 times in a row (I am not sure about that number) so I would expect oSU to have pulled away easily.
They looked uninspired and did not play with the expected intensity for an opener. oSU may have been looking ahead but they did not look like a top ten team today. TP did throw the ball better than he did last year.
Tressel needs to have his boys fired up next week, I hope we do not see another fetal position in the 2nd half like last year.
