From Scouts.

The dramatic rise in the story of Scottsdale (Az.) Chaparral offensive tackleTaylor Lewan's recruiting came to an end on Saturday when he made his verbal commitment to the University of Michigan while on his recruiting visit.

Scout.com brings you the first quotes from the newest Wolverine.

So how did it happen? Lewan says, “I was at Coach Rodriguez’s house on Saturday and was having dinner and it just felt right. I called my mom and she said I had her support no matter what I did. So I was in a room with Coach Rodriguez and my dad and committed.”

The staff was excited to hear the news from the four-star player. Taylor comments, “The coaches were pumped. It was all shaking hands, high fives and hugs.”

Lewan says that the staff fell in love with his “tenacity and how he finishes his blocks.

The trip to Michigan was Lewan’s second official visit and prior to visiting he said he was not sure when he wanted to commit. There were rumors that he may commit at the ESPN/Under Armour All-America Game but Taylor says the visit made that much of an impression on him. “I go the advice to take football out of the picture and just see the school as a student and I did that. Michigan has the biggest alumni base in the world and a degree from there will really help me in life.” Lewan plans on majoring in business.

How much did Craig Roh’s commitment to the Wolverines play in Taylor’s? “I had to do what was best for me,” Taylor says. “Having Craig there will be great, he will help me in football and in school. We have already talked about rooming together.”

Lewan says he is completely done with recruiting, “I am not taking any more visits. I am shutting it down. I am a Wolverine.”

He adds, “They say I am going to wear Jake Long’s #77 but other than that, they didn’t promise me anything. I am going to work on my technique and get bigger, faster and stronger and my goal is to play as a freshman.”

That's some goal for him to start as a freshman with only one year at the position under his belt. But, that's the kind of player we need at UM. Funny to hear he is getting Long's #77. Hope he plays just like him, and from the sound of it, he does. Man am I pumped for Sept. '09 now.

I have a feeling this kid is going to be something special, After reading somethings his HS coach said, he could end up being better than Oneil who i think was our highest rated lineman.

edit: lewans HS coach :"..offensive tackle who was described by his high school coach as "having the most upside of any kid I've ever coached."

"Taylor has just scratched the surface of his potential," Ragle said.
