View Full Version : Recruiting scores tell it all!

If you look at the average school recruiting scores for the current team rosters (fresh/soph/jr/sr) it tells you why what's what, and who's who.

USC (surprise!) has the best average recruiting score, by far. The next best is FL, but USC's score is twice as good as FL's. But tell me this...why does Meyer have two NC in half the time compared to Carroll on the job nearly twice as long? Luck, or is Meyer clearly the better coach?

The rest of the elite programs have recruiting scores 3x USC, and 2x FL. Those elite programs being of course OSU, ND, AL, MI, etc. USC and FL stand head and shoulders above everyone else in getting the best football players, as rated coming out of high school.

OSU lands in the polls about where it lands in recruiting. So Tressel is not taking these boys to a higher level. ND crashes in the polls compared the quality of recruits. So Weiss is clearly mismanaging his team. AL higher in polls than justified by recruiting. Saban takes team to higher level. The verdict could be considered out still on what RR does with MI. But MI average recruiting is right there with OSU, ND, AL. UM is getting elite football players.

MSU not recruiting highly, so it should be no surprise that the team does not end up in the top ten. IA recruits well, but underperforms. Ferentz not a good coach?

No link, I just went to Rivals.com CFB recruiting. Downloaded the recruiting results for the years in question, and let my calculator do the rest. The evaluation is an eye opener. Carroll is an underperformer, given the talent he gets. Carr did not leave the cupboard bare. Dantonio is doing alright with what he has to work with. Etc. See for yourself.

As the Iron Chef once said..."You can't make a souffle out of shit!":D

Carr did leave the cupboard bare. Most of the guys who were high recruits the last few years transferred, left early, got hurt or underperformed. A few still did well or are still playing. I checked this out a year ago, thats when I noticed that Carr's recruiting wasn't as good as the recruiting standings indicated.
