View Full Version : The end of SEC dominance?

Based on what I have seen so far the SEC looks no better than any other conference. I don't see any one conference head and shoulders above the rest like the SEC in the last few years. Will bowl season reveal the end of SEC domination?

Not so fast my friend!
Hard to say. I think the B10 and Pac 10 are better than most of the media types realize. But are they ready to go after that top spot? Not so sure. By the end of October a clearer picture should begin to emerge on who is contending and who is not. I think top to bottom the B10 is getting ready to be the premier conference within a year or two.
One conference thats not ready to take the next step is the B12. Vastly over-rated last year and not looking much better this year. The ACC is also looking up with play from Miami, VT and FSU leading the way.

I'm not saying the big ten is better or will be better this just looks like a year where no conference will be head and shoulders above the others. Sorry SEC fans I know the truth hurts but it is what it is.

Until another conference unseats the SEC (3 NCs in a row), I don't see how anyone can realistically be critical of this conference.

Nobody is being critical; just not wetting our pants in fear and bowing down in awe and wonder at these overhyped crackerjacks!

If the competition for the NC could be something other than a big 12 or OSU team maybe they would get unseated. You put USC in the last 3 NC games and they have the last 3 NC's

Unfortunately, without a playoff system, we'll never know. Shitting the bed against a conference cupcake every year doesn't exactly inspire confidence that USC should be the NC. I do agree that in a tourney, USC would be a very scary opponent, given Carrol's big game track record. However, great teams show up every game, big or small - these USC chokes are chronic.

Yes, but...Gators choked too, against Ole Miss. They have never been undefeated. Okie got beat by Longhorns but still jumped them for the NC game. USC deserved to be there as much or more than anyone else. Losing to a decent OrSU team should not have eliminated them. Everyone in the country knows USC would have kicked Florida's ass. Period. Florida is a phony champ, for 2008.

Sorry but I'm not buying your crap. Florida won the legitimate MNC last year, same as OSU did in 2002. Say what you want about the media and its love of the SEC but you guys have said they love USC too so what gives? The media has also been known to overank B10 schools and just generally does it with "hot" or trendy schools so I'm not buying your arguement.
The reson Ole Miss was expected to do so well was based on their last 4 games of last season when they averaged 45.5 pts per game and Snead seemed to have finally gotten it, plus they are loaded with Jr's and Sr's. And remember they beat Texas Tech, the same team that beat Texas to knock them out of MNC contention.

You got your opinion, I have mine. Everybody has one. And in this case most CFB fans would agree that USC probably would have kicked Gator ass. But I don't mine Gators getting it by default, as long as they keep their mouths shut about it. When the SEC blowhards start sounding like a broken record with their asinine opining that I want to say "STFU!"

And that sir is how we UM fans feel about the Buckeyes and particularly the trolls on here. Its bad enough your team has dominated for the past 8 years but you have to come in here and run your mouths about it? Real classy.

You won't find any trolling of mine in your section of the forum. The only time I flame is to counter-flame your assholes trying to dump their garbage in the OSU section of the forum. And to rein in some of the other blowhards (Hawks, Gator, etc.) who want to yap about how great their teams are in inappropriate sections of the forum (i.e. mainly your section).
I am trying to be respectful. I know I am a guest here. And I am trying to convey genuine concerns to your fans about your program. I do not want to see Michigan become another B10 lay down. Fair enough?

Fair enough. But you have to admit that in Gator's case his team has proven it on the field.

Tell me about a real team when your school has 7 National Championships, instead of just 3.

Ohio State was kicking CFB ass when FU was still finding it's way out of the orange groves. Don't forget it!

Hey Nor Cal,
just saw a stat during the FL/KEN game that the SEC leads the nation in non-conference winning pct. Thought you would like to hear it....that's all.

Florida and alabama looked amazing today. That's my one and two. Tebow is tough as nails. None of the other teams in the sec come close to those two. I thought kentucky would score some and make a game of it. Nobody in that league other than bama has the roster to compete with florida.
