View Full Version : Pryor vs The Rest

Has the best OSU QBs of all time been a discussion thread lately?
If not, how do you think Pryor is/is going to stack up against the rest and best OSU QBs?
Kern? Greene? Smith, others?
I was just checking Corney's stats...10-0-1 as a sophmore, 12 rushing TDs, Rose Bowl MVP. 10-2 as a junior, 146 rushing yards in one game (record), 2nd Rose Bowl. 11-1 as a senior, OSU/B10 MVP, 3rd Rose Bowl. National Championship (whipped USC, yeah!). 2-0-1 versus Michigan when they were good. Archie and Pete Johnson to hand off to. Man they were good. Corney ran that option like a pro.
Kern, of course, national champ as a sophmore, only lost 2 games(?) in three years as a starter.
Smith, everyone knows about him.
I think Corney is the standard Pryor needs to be measured against. What say you?;)

I think based on what he did in a 3 year stretch - Troy Smith is the greatest QB to come out of Ohio State. That is if you base it on stats, awards and victories over Michigan. I also happen to think that Troy played against better competition. I have never been good at comparing players from different eras - nowbody has.
What I do know is that Pryor has a head start on most of the above players. He has been a starter since game 4 of his freshman year. He very well could have 4 victories over Michigan and his upside is unlimited. Remember Troy really did not explode untill his junior year. TP has a long way to be Troy - but he still has the potential to be very very special and mentioned with the greats.

I believe they finally put him in the shotgun for good last weekend (ala Vince Young) Maybe that will help.

OH! When I first read the thread title I thought you were comparing Pryor to the rest of the QB's in college football right now. He would be the worst in my opinion. He's worse than Jamarcus Russell for the Raiders. But since you're comparing him to other OSU QB's, I would probably say he's the worst.

That's funny! Yet so true. tuos hasn't had any remarkable QB's in their history. I guess you could say Smith is the best, or should I say the tallest dwarf. Sad that he wins the Heisman and hasn't done shit since then. I guess you could say staying out of jail is something.

I can care less what kind of a pro a QB is. How many NC did Brady win you ? All I care about is how good you can be in college and how you can help the Buckeyes win. How does Brady being a better pro then a college QB help your program ? he sure was not the best QB in the game when he was there - so what is the point.

Since TP will be in college for seven more years before he graduates, he should rack up all kinds of stats.

Name one MI QB who had a better COLLEGE career than Greene? Better than Kern? Better than Smith? Aaahhhh??????????????

...and Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in 1 game in high school. So what? Art Schlichter (sp?) is the most (in)famous QB to ever come out of tuos, although Herbstreit will surpass him as the most notable.

I knew I could count on fluff from you...come on I think you can do it if you really try. An intelligent response.
The question posed was if Michigan has ever had a quarterback that could surpass the accomplishments of the best Ohio State quarterbacks, while playing at college.
I say no. Greene and Kern I know hands down trump the best of your best. You might have someone equal/near equal to Smith (he didn't win a NC).
So I say stop talking shit about OSU quarterbacks. We have had some really good ones that were alot better than any of yours.

unfortunately that is the attitude that keeps OSU holding on to the title of "biggest laughing stock in the fcking nation". And it is why UM was holding that title all but one year in the 90's.
The big ten UM and OSU are going to be a joke and continue to be until we think about the BIG picture....nobody gives a shat about the um/osu game or the big 10 title except us.

Chad Henne's career stats:
828 comps. / 1387 attempts
59.7% completion rate
9715 Yards
87 Passing TD's
37 Interceptions
133.9 Efficiency Rating
Rex Kern completed 188 of 364 passes for 2,444 yards and 19 touchdowns.
for his WHOLE CAREER.
Troy Smith's career stats:
420 comps. / 670 attempts
55.2% completion rate
5720 Yards
54 Passing TD's
13 Interceptions
95.2 Efficiency Rating
oh, i didn't factor in rushing stats you say? well, here you go...
293 carries for 1168 yards for his career, to go with 14 TD's.
that means his total offense is still almost 3000 yards less than Henne's to go with 19 less touchdowns. i'm pretty sure that makes Henne more accomplished.
don't be such a homer; you've never had a qb like Henne and you never will; and Henne probably wasn't even our best.

How many times did Henne beat Ohio State and did he win the Heisman ? Case closed - not even close. Henne had good numbers because he played 4 years - he was a marginal QB at best with happy feet who locked on to one WR to often.
You guys were scared to death of Troy Smith - we did not fear henne in the least.

when pryor becomes a QB, which isn't going to happen at ohio state as they can't develop QB's, then you can ask this question, otherwise you're fucking morons for even debating and ohio state has never had an adequate QB, ask the NFL, the authority on the issue.

Again. Who gives two shits about the NFL - I don't. I'm a Buckeye fan first. You can be a great college QB and a lousy NFL QB - it happens all the time. How good has Brady looked lately ? It's funny how when the system is being rebuilt - he looks average. Cassel posted Brady like numbers after never taking a college snap. If he would of had more time at the helm in New England he would of been just like Brady.
Henne was a loser in college. He lost the biggest rivalry game in the history of the series and was the QB during the biggest upset in college history. He could always ask Ginn how it feels to beat your rival. We will see how below average Henne looks this weekend.

Yeah, Cassel lead NE deep into the playoffs, since NE is just a system offense...oh wait, NE didn't make the playoffs without Brady last year, did they?
If you want to talk about losers, how about every QB that played for tUOS during the Cooper era. Not only did they go 2-11-1 vs. Michigan, but they later disappeared into obscurity...ouch...

Good man, you're abso-fucking-lutely right! Griese did own OSU butt. Got a NC too, after costing us one. MF! I thought he was good at MI, but it's you're job to remember MI glory, not mine.
Still trumping you though, 2-1. Plus my guys both had much better career records, and did not have to come off the bench as scrubs. Plus both beat USC in Rose Bowl for NC, as sophmores. Triple bonus points for that, wouldn't you agree?
Moral of story is don't talk shit about OSU QBs. We have had more good ones than you, and Pryor is in line to be the next great one. Enough said.

Cassel was a bench warmer at USC and in New England. He was forced into duty when Brady went down and missed the playoffs by one game. He also had stats that were so good that it landed him a fortune in KC. There are many QB that could do as good a job (or better) then Brady in New England.

the flaw in your arguement is that you said we didn't have a quarterback who can hold a candle to kern or greene. kern and greene relied on strong running games and good defenses to win them games.
Henne was a more efficient offensive weapon than any quarterback OSU has ever had. (with the POSSIBLE exception of Troy Smith) It's not Chad's fault his defense couldn't stop App State, etc...
STOP USING HOMER LOGIC.

The problem is, you give the quarterbacks too much credit for winning those games. using that logic, you have never had a running back as good as Anthony Thomas, because Thomas was on the 97' Mich NC team. See how it makes no sense?
Bob Griese, one of the greatest QB's in Big Ten history, never won a NC; but Chris Leak won one for Florida. so is Leak better than Griese? umm... no...

Why are you persisting with this stupidity, no one buy an anti-Michigan troll is buying this?
Cassel 2008 (11-5), 89.4 QB rating, 3693 yds, 21TD, 11Int
Brady 2007 (18-1), 117.2 QB rating, 4806 yds, 50TD, 8Int.
