I don't know if this news was posted already but I see that Kevin Newsome committed to Penn State. I thought he would end up at VT. We'll see how he turns out. I think he will struggle with his pass game early and possibly be good into his JR and SR years. I am still very happy with Beaver and Forcier and think the competition will push both to the top of their game.

Bummer - I think Newome is better than both our guys. Just upset he's in the Big Ten now.

That's hard to say, none of these guys have taken a snap in the college ranks. Only time will tell but college football and high school football are totally different when it comes to game speed and competition. Players are bigger, better and faster at the collegiate level...

I believe Forcier is rated higher than Newsome in regard to passing accuracy and Beaver is rated higher in regard to running ability. I like that UM is getting 2 outstanding QB prospects. Injuries will always be an issue at the QB position and having backups with different skillsets could be advantageous.

Best dual-threat quarterback
What Scouts Inc. looks for: These prospects can be every bit as dangerous with their legs and overall athleticism as they can be with their arms. Oftentimes at this stage, dual-threat QBs are better athletes than passers; they are a candidate to move to another position down the road, which can make them a "can't miss" prospect.
1. Russell Shepard (Houston/Cy-Ridge)
Yes, we know he is in the athlete category, but there is not another player in this class quite like him. He certainly can run and if utilized in the right scheme at the next level, he has the upside to be effective in the passing game.
2. Tate Forcier (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch)
This scrapper lacks great height, but he is fun to watch. He has a quick release and an uncanny ability to create and improvise both on designed runs and when things break down in the passing game. Forcier is a perfect fit for Rich Rodriguez's scheme at Michigan.
3. Shavodrick Beaver (Wichita Falls, Texas/Rider)
Beaver will be joining Forcier in Ann Arbor, and the two freshmen could be battling with Justin Feagin from the 2008 class for the keys to the Michigan offense. Beaver is tall, possesses upside as a passer and is a gifted runner. He's not as a fast as West Virginia standout Pat White, but Beaver has better size.

Along with Beaver, Forcier and Feagin; If Michigan somehow snags Travante Stallworth from Auburn, they would have 4 QB's from high school that ran the spread offense.
Michigan told Stallworth that he could try-out for QB if he decided to come here. Feagin took a few snaps this year and looks explosive with his legs. Add Beaver and Forcier...WOW!
You still have Threet and Sheridan BUT you also have 4 other EXPLOSIVE players competing for the job as well. I know Feagin is destined for the slot but he is a competitor and will take snaps if they need him too...
Stallworth may be a slot guy as well or a WR but he is capable of taking snaps as well. It's nice to have that kind of depth. Michigan obviously lacked that this year at the QB position and it hurt them!

I still dont understand y 3 freshman "qbs" would all come in the same year. Is beaver willing to play slot or wr..... is tate? what about this third guy from auburn. I do not like the 2 qb system, though it is nice to have a back up. From everything i have seen on tate forcier makes me think he is our best bet.... but the other 2, beaver and stallworth wont want to ride the bench.. Its nice to switch it up and have a quality back up but these kids seem to good to take a back up role

Beaver could be a very good receiver. Stallworth is being recruited at every other school as a receiver, as well as at Michigan. The only difference is is that UM said they would give him a shot at qb. And why wouldn't they? They have nothing to lose.

I think Beaver and Forcier would be dedicated QB's. We WILL need backups in this system. Although Stallworth would be given a chance at QB, I think the other two would beat him out and he would be a 3rd or 4th string QB if something happened to the other two. I see Stallworth at WR or slot along with Feagan and both in QB reserve should they be needed. Smart move on RR's part.

I'm not saying that's where these guys will play. I was just answering nc wolverine's question. Beaver was being recruited as a receiver by a couple schools I believe. I'm not saying that's where he will be, but it is a possibility. With his elusiveness, you need the ball in his hands. And a receiver position may be his only shot is Tate is the real deal. As for Stallworth, we are the only team that has said yes to qb for him.

All our eggs are in one basket now with Forcier. It doesn't matter though if people don't want to come to Michigan then we don't really want them.

You are right sb, we want those who want to be here. I am confident that we will land another quality QB/Athlete type.
As for Kevin Newsome, one of the guys posted that he is not even the starter at Hargrave High School. His stock has really dropped.
