What if Cincinnati runs the table, Boise State loses, and the only major one loss team is OSU?
Could OSU face Cincinnati for the BCS?
I think that is about what it would take to force a playoff system. Maybe a Cincinnati vs Boise State BCS could do it too.
Buckeyes vs Bearcats for the BCS? That would be an interesting game. I would watch it.:)

If UC and Boise run the table together and Florida, Texas, and Alabama lose, One of the two will be in the NC. They will probably play Florida or Alabama in the NC. Both wouldn't get it. I assure you that.

Why would anyone question an undefeated BCS team playing for the MNC? This is just beyond retarded. Boise State I can see questioning, but UC? They're not some chump team from out west in a mid-major conference.
With all that said I would LOVE to see UC and OSU matched up, BCS or MNC.

That matchup (UC vs OSU) would have an interest radius of about 200 miles from those schools. That would be the worse championship game of all time (ratings wise). I don't think 90% of college football fans believe OSU should even have a shot at the title this year without some DRASTIC, DRASTIC shakeups. I saw "The Herd" this morning and he wasn't kidding - college football fans are eternal optimist, especially ND and Buckeye fans.

That was my point. The current system could produce results that virtually no one would be interested in watching. How about BSU vs UC for even less interest? At least the OSU vs UC contest would draw the 1,000,000 Buckeye Nation to the tube.
We need a playoff system now, before BSU and UC play for it all. Playoff system could also give conference runners-up a second crack at it all. Terry Bowden did a column a year or so ago laying out a "Sweet Sixteen" bracket system. It looked real good, some really interesting games could be had.

Awww....that's right, you weren't here for all the playoff system talk. You're too new. I'm a huge proponent for the playoff system, but I prefer 8 vs 16. Here's the system I've been advocating:
First, we keep a ranking system similar to BCS. Automatic bids for conference champs of the 6 BCS conferences as long as they are also ranked in the Top 15 of ranking system. Face it, no team ranked outside the Top 15 entering the bowl season has ever won the NC. Two spots are researved for autobid by non-BCS conference teams that rank inside the Top 10 of the ranking system. If their are more than 2, the highest ranked qualify. These two spots are for the ND's, Boise St's, Utah's, and TCU's of the world. If all of the autobid spots are not filled by these criteria (e.g., the BigEast didn't have a Top 15 team last year, or two non-BCS teams don't qualify), then the highest ranked non-autobid qualifiers fill in the remaining spots. This would ensure a playoff system between Top 15 teams, and non-BCS conference teams would schedule tougher to make the Top10. The only problem is that it might discourage BCS conference teams from scheduling at least one decent OOC game, but how is that different from today? Just ask Penn St.
I don't care how they institute the 8-team playoff, whether they use homefield advantage for the first round or if they use the bowl system. I would just like to see an 8-team playoff.

I really don't think we have to worry about Boise St making it in since the computer rankings are part of the equation. Since Boise has already played the toughest part of their schedule their BCS ranking can only go down even if they win out. The only way they don't is if most of the top teams lose at least 2 games and they get ranked #1 in the polls. The chances of that are pretty slim.

Looks like I was right about Boise, they keep slipping in the BCS rankings.

NorCal,
I thought the Buckeyes had two losses.... or, maybe I'm hallucinating - you're right - OSU is actually undefeated - it beat both USC and Purdue this season...

Rather than trolling an outdated post of mine why aren't you forming a committee to bring Kelly to Ann Arbor? Come on, dude, do something productive with your time. Your program is in crisis. It needs fans like you to step up and save it from long term ruination.
