Bryan is reporting on Mgoblog the following thing I paste:

Something not directly asked: how much will these decommits hurt the recruiting class?
Newsome: not at all. Michigan replaced Newsome with an equivalent prospect in Tate Forcier. (Newsome started the recruiting cycle ranked way high but has dropped steadily since; he didn't even start for Hargrave this year.)
Fera: little. Michigan replaced Fera with a near-equivalent in Brendan Gibbons. Also: kickers are crapshoots.
Barnes: little. Guy is a three-star who is probably going to end up at Purdue for lack of better offers. Michigan can get a dozen of those kinds of players.
McNeal: considerable. McNeal is a top-100 talent to everyone and Michigan is not going to replace that in this class unless they snake oil some kid unexpectedly.
Campbell: either not at all or enormously, depending on whether he recommits.
Overall: there's a ding from the McNeal departure and if Campbell doesn't rejoin the fold it'll be a huge disappointment; other than that the decommit hullaballoo is a lot of hype with little impact.

Bryan is also reporting that Paul Rhoads to Iowa State and John Chavis to Clemson. This probably means Jay Hopson to Michigan as the DC. Hope I did this right:

Rockie, I've also been hearing Casteel from WVU. Casteel was the DC there when they had those good defenses in 2005 and 2007. They had a great run defense in 2006, but their secondary was awful. No matter who the DC will become, I hope he is a great recruiter, because no defense is great without great players.

John Chavis would be a great hire as well. I'd name him the #1 right now. He's got a great name for the recruits, and he's got a great history of awesome defenses.

This is a good post Rock. I did follow the link and read the rest. It does put the recruiting process in proper perspective and made me feel better. The Beaver decommit still bothers me though. Its hard to replace the 11th hour idiots that lie about their "solid" committment days before decommitting because 3 coaches from the well known powerhouse of mightly Tulsa "Community College" come into the living room. That was not a good play by Beaver and sadly shows what type of person he is. He should've been honest about it all the way.

As for DC, I hope we do not hire from within. You should hire from within when you are strong in that area. It is best to find the best and most qualified person for the job.
