overturn play??

I have a quick question. I was at the game today and was confused with the umps overturning the tate pitch to brown to the lineman. I thought the challenge was if brown was out of bounds yet they ruled it a forward pass. I thought the replay was only used for what was being challenged. Did the announcers say anything about the use of the replay?

The play wasnt challenged it was reviewed. Which means the review came from officials up above. They can review any part of he play. In the NFL if you challenge a play you have to challenge a specific part of the play.

It was overturned because officals said it was an illegal forward pass.
