I just wanted to take a minute and see if others have a similar perspective. I was looking at the schedule of BCS games, and I do realize that Fox is spreading them out so 1) they don't overlap on the same day and as a result Fox has coverage problems, 2) that it's about money and maximizing the advertising and pull of viewers, 3) Fox is avoiding scheduling conflicts with the NFL playoffs, and 4) there needs to be a week (or close to it) between the BCS game played at the same site and the MNC game to ensure the field can be repaired and restored to playing condition, if necessary.

The fact that OSU / Texas is still several days away IMO really makes it rather anti-climatic. I do want to watch the game, but I think that it would be much better if the game were played tonight, tomorrow night, or Sunday - one major BCS game on consecutive nights. I'm glad that ESPN won the "next" contract for BCS coverage and hope that they do things to improve the process.

Finally, the results of the Rose Bowl indicate just how ridiculous the BCS system is. The "informed" voters in all the polls viewed the Pac 10 as "weak" - and the Pac 10 is the only undefeated conference this bowl season. I can't help but wonder what a "plus 3" scenario would have looked like this season, because it's rather obvious to those who actually follow college football and know the game that USC is a better team than many had ranked above it. I believe that Florida is a very strong team - as are Oklahoma and Texas - but, I find it difficult to understand how voters out there "weigh" Florida's loss at home to Ole Miss in more favorable light than they did USC's loss on the road to Oregon State. I know it's a popularity contest, and I honestly never root for USC (actually, I hate their guts) - but Carroll and the Trojans have a great program - and they seem to get the short end of the stick far more often than the SEC or Big 12 champs do.

I can only imagine what a "plus 3" would have looked this year. USC would be one team in it - deservedly so, and imagining what the "final four" would look like - with potentially Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, or someone else - well, I can't see how ratings wouldn't go through the roof... And, the fans / advertisters would be extremely well served.

It's a dream - I know - and a hope I have that someday will be resolved.
