Top ten signs a Golfers marriage may be over:

1. Your wife no longer puts up with you texting your girlfriend.
2. Your putter smells like Chanel #5 but your wife wears DK.
3. Your wife swings a mean #1 wood when she’s not on the golf course.
4. Instead of the driving range, your wife uses the Escalade as a target.
5. You know everything about golf and nothing about juggling a mistress.
6. You can’t go for a drive at 2:30am without your wife chasing you down the driveway.
7. You can’t attend your own golf benefit because you have to be in divorce court.
8. You consider a 7-iron protruding from your forehead to be a minor accident.
9. You now know what a golf ball feels like when it hits a tree.
10. A real HANDICAP is when you’re paying for your wife’s lawyer.

The problem with this situation is even if Tiger came clean and told the truth... if it wasn't what the media wanted to hear, they won't believe him anyway. They've already crowned him as cheating on his wife. The media will wait until they get the story they want to hear and won't let the story go until then.

Carty,

The media needs to hear more of WHY he was out in his car at 2:30 in the morning. Maybe he, O'Meara, and a few others were going to have a late night poker game. Maybe he was off to the Piggly-Wiggly for some milk or diapers. Maybe his lovely wife was extremely pissed at him.

There needs to be a plausible explanation for what he was doing - and, until he offers it - the media won't let him go - at least some of the media, that is.

What I find very interesting is that the woman who he was alledged to be "spending time with" (who I believe lives in New York) was coincidentally in the LA area on Monday - which is where Tiger was expected to be to host his charity tournament. And, she was "coincidentally" in Australia, staying at the same hotel as Tiger when he played there recently. If certain media sources are accurate - there have been "several coincidences" with the Tiger and this friend of his. I'm just wondering - when might it stop being a coincidence that there happen to be in the same place...

I'm divided. One part of me says he does deserve privacy. It isn't any of my business for sure. But once I saw him in a tournament. An old man (a spectator) was softly chatting with his wife and Tiger ripped him a new one for talking. I thought, what a putz. He makes tens or hundreds of millions of $$ hitting a little white ball around a golf course and he's still a dickhead. If he can't enjoy one smokin' hot blonde babe as a wife and he's been cheating, then I say let the reporters have a field day. Anybody else feel that way?

NCBLUE
12-02-2009, 12:58 PM
Though I do not agree with his actions, I wonder how all of this will play out and affect his golf game and pursuit of Jack. For the most part I think he deserves his privacy.

So many great athletes make so many bad decisions, they are human and not perfect but life in the media fish bowl means most everything comes out eventually.

I'm mixed about my feelings. I think that Tiger's image is managed to a "t". And, it's very clear that it's all about him. Look at what happened to "Fluff" Cowan, his caddie from his early days - he tossed Fluff out the window as soon as he appeared in a TV commercial. Tiger did the same thing to Butch Harmon when he felt that Butch was getting too much credit for what Tiger was accomplishing.

And, it can be pretty clear that Tiger won't spend time with any reporter / analyst that doesn't say favorable things about him.

I believe that Tiger's "made this bed" - and now, unfortunately, he has to deal with the consequences.

Charles Barkley made things clear many years ago when he said "don't expect me to be a role model for your kids" - or something very similar. The role model for children should be their parents. And, it's a simple decision - you walk the walk or you don't. I appreciated Barkley's candor and directness. Parents and spouses should take responsibility for their actions.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but - I'm guessing, now that this is out in the open, the media frenzy will die down in about a month.

My policy is usually that we should mind our own business, and that a public figure's private life is generally off limits. However, when that public figure uses public resources like the police, fire dept, or EMS, the issue is no longer private. Therefore, when 911 was called, it was all fair game.

The guy made some serious blunders, and used up a lot of good will. Others who have done much worse, ie Kobe Bryant and Ray Lewis for example, have bounced back and found their ways back into the good graces of public opinion.

What I find most disturbing about this scenario - and, perhaps one of the women who post here could offer there opinion - is this: It's not like Tiger was out with the boys after a tourney somewhere or in Vegas - got, lit, and let his guard down on ONE occassion.

Tiger has been having a relationship with on of the women for 31 months.

Tiger's been married for about five years - he's been having this one piece of action on the side for HALF OF HIS MARRIAGE.

Again, no one is perfect. But, he insists on such a squeaky clean persona - through the media and how he's handled. Some endorsements won't be as lucrative - and, I don't know what, if any, clauses exist in those contracts that reflect on his morality / lifestyle. But, there's no criminal prosecution, and the only fine he'll pay is $164 for the accident. However, his image in the media / industry is stained forever - period.

I was reading a news article this morning about how some tabloid knew of this a couple years ago and sat on it because the tabloid's parent company is owned by the same company that publishes Men's Fitness Magazine. The deal was struck that the tabloid would sit on the story and in exchange Tiger appeared on the cover of Men's Fitness and gave an interview, something he apparantly doesn't grant often.

How do I feel about this whole thing? I guess I feel disappointed a little bit. At the same time, I guess I'm not that surprised.

People suggest he's an idiot for putting at risk his career. I don't buy that. If anything, this whole episode will bring in even more viewers to the pga events he plays in. He's still going to be a great competitor. He's had to hide all of this deviant behavior for years and yet he keeps on being the best player in the world. Imagine how much better he will be without having to juggle all these floosies behind the public eye. He probably wins two majors this year.

Furley,

I'm willing to bet that the "legions of fans" that Tiger's gained over the years will get a bit smaller when play begins this season. And, I could only wish that the US Open was at Bethpage Black again this year - I'm quite certain the fans will be riding Tiger for a while about his indiscretions.

So - you said that TV fans may increase in numbers - I don't know why they would. And, the unified support he's realized is going to take a hit - I don't think there's any doubt about that.

I would bet that many golfing fans who were pulling for Tiger to beat Jack Nicklaus' major win total will probably be delighted if he doesn't.
Now six women have come forward. If the guy is juggling this many women, how much time is he really spending each week on his golfing game?
Could steroid use also be helping his game? The guy really seems more muscular then he did a couple years ago.

I've heard that no commercials starring Tiger Woods have aired since this story broke. A few out here are implying that his "commercial viability" and endorsements won't change as a result of this. For those who have that impression or thought, I would beg to differ.

Tiger's marketing machine has been impacted by this. And, his endorsement contracts will be hit very solidly, particularly in the place he'll feel it - eventually - his wallet. There's no doubt he's got a HUGE bankroll - but, I also think it won't be growing through endorsements at anywhere near the rate it has been over the last seven or ten years.

Gatorade announced dropping the "Gatorade Tiger Focus" drink. I love their typical excuse, "we made this decision to drop Tiger 34 years ago and it has nothing to do with recent events"..........Rightttttttttttt.

Personally, I think he can replace some sponsors with:

-Trojan condoms
-A new tamperless texting cellphone that self-destructs when your wife picks it up
-A new golf club strong enough to break car windows.
-A new collision avoidance system that steers clear of trees and fire hydrants.
-Glasses that make every damn gorgeous nymph look like Michael Jackson (to help you avoid temptation)

Well, for those who felt Tiger's commercial appeal wouldn't be impacted by his salacious activity - it appears there's new news.

First, Gatorade decided "months ago" to drop the drink that was targeted at Tiger and his followers... And, today, Accenture, who may be among Tiger's biggest sponsors (financially) decided that he no longer fit the role that Accenture wishes to be positioned as.

Yeah - no financial impact - people will forget about this in a little while - uh, no.. no.. no they won't.

Tiger will go on Oprah and spill his guts out - it may or may not save his marrige. He will then turn his attention back to golf - and he will kick ass. The sponsors will be coming back in droves. They will all want a piece of Tiger again. How long did sponsors stay away from Kobe - and he commited a crime ? We live is a veru forgiving society - and they will forgive Tiger if he handles it properly. Hell Ray Lewis was involved in a murder - remember ? Did that keep Under Armour and others away ? Tiger cheated on his wife - it happens everyday. I'm sure many of us would fall prey to the same vise if we were out of town and country as much as he was. I'm not saying that it's right in anyway - but he is not your average sports star. I'm sure the quality of females throwing themselfs at Tiger is insane. I'm guessing he fell into the thinking of if I got away with it once - I can do it again. That is how most cheaters get caught.

Tiger is the best golfer ever. In an era where he has to beat other golfers that are actually good, it's hard to argue that point. Cheating on your wife is a terrible thing to do but he shouldn't have gotten this much negativity. I think that people are just happy to see that the guy is actually human and are all willing to take shots at him. I mean, kick him while he's down? At least he's trying to figure things out with his wife. Taking off from golf at a critical point in his career where he could make a mad rush at the Majors tells me that he actually cares. Tiger Woods will forever be my favorite golfer. Favorite person? ehhhh.

Like him or hate him, TIGER WOODS IS PROFESSIONAL GOLF.

Until he returns to the tour, television ratings for PGA events will suck. Attendence will be down dramatically at events.

Once Tiger returns, the numbers will be back up and he will get new sponsors if he starts to win. Unfortunately, many peole will be watching for the wrong reasons. People will want to know...will the gallery yell stuff at Tiger?...will he respond to questions about the affairs?...will his wife be in attendance?
