All of the BCS apologists are slapping each other on the back in self congratulatory delusion over the BCS being saved from "chaos" because Texas eeked out a win against Nebraska last night with a last second field goal.

So now the BCS works because the SEC Champ (Alabama) and the Big 12 champ (Texas) will get to square off while all of the nuisance teams like TCU, UC, and Boise State are relegated to some other bowl that they should jus be happy to play in, for Pete's sake.

But, here's an argument I'd like to see someone put forward on the national landscape: TCU deserves to be in the BCS title game more so than either Alabama or Texas.

Last year, the Mountain West Conference Champion (Utah) smoked Alabama in the Sugar Bowl 31-17.

This year, Alabama goes undefeated and gets to play in the title game while this year's undefeated Mountain West Conference Champion (TCU) gets relegated to a different bowl. What has Alabama done in the past year to warrant it more worthy than the Mountain West Conference Champion?

They went undefeated in the conference play and won non-conference games over:

Virginia Tech 34-24
Florida International 40-14
North Texas 53-7
Chattanooga 45-0

Since the Mountain West Champion last year (Utah) smoked Alabama (the SEC runner up) conference strength should not be a decisive factor.

What did this year's Mountain West Champion do out of conference?

Viriginia 30-14
Texas State-San Marcos 56-21
Clemson 14-10
SMU 39-14

So, out of conference, TCU beat the ACC Atlantic Division champion on the road while Alabama beat the Coastal Division 2nd place team on the road.

Now lets look at Texas:

Texas went undefeated in conference play and played the following teams out of conference:

Louisiana-Monroe 59-20
Wyoming 41-10
UTEP 64-7
UCF 35-3

They also beat Oklahoma 16-13 in conference.

Now compare to TCU:

Both TCU and Texas played Wyoming. TCU won 45-10. Texas won 41-10.

Here's something else: The Mountain West 2nd place team, BYU, beat Oklahoma 14-13. Texas also beat Oklahoma by a score of 16-13. How did TCU fare against BYU? TCU won 38-7.

The following is all sarcasm

So, as you can see, TCU has absolutely no business trying to make a claim they should be in the BCS title game. They should be happy they will be getting paid off to go play in the Fiesta Bowl or wherever they end up. The BCS title game would be a travesty if it weren't slotted with the two most deserving teams, Texas & Alabama. We sure are lucky that Texas got that last second field goal to win against Nebraska.

Furley,

I disagree with you strongly. First - you mention that the Alabama game against Virginia Tech was "away". That game was played in Atlanta - so, best case - it's a neutral field - in Alabama's case, I'm pretty sure that more Bama fans filled the stands than Hokie fans did.

I would have loved to have seen Nebraska hold on for the win yesterday. It would have illuminated to a much greater extent that the BCS is garbage.

There's no way that you - or anyone else - can state with certainty whether TCS, Cincy, or Boise State - would or would not be able to defeat Bama or Texas - or whether Texas is a "more deserving" representative in the MNC game than TCU, Cincy, or Boise State.

What I really hope we wind up with this season is four undefeated teams at the end of the season. The Bama / Texas winner will be one, and if TCU, Cincy, and Boise State don't play each other - and they win their games - we'll really see what a crock the BCS is.

After all, Boise State certainly isn't deserving - all they did was defeat the Pac 10 champion. And, that Pac 10 Champ beat USC, who - as we all know - defeated OSU.

As many have said - the BCS is really just BS - and, the bowl lineup that will be unveiled tonight will probably prove that too...
