How highly recruited was this guy? A big loss? I think Roundtree is asking why he left and not saying everybody on the team hates each other. Observations?

This has been rumored for a couple weeks now. It's even been on this site. According to Rock, he's going to think about it over the break and let the team know. In another thread, RRs comments at some banquet suggested that Smith is gone. He did miss a team meeting recently. He's a guy torn between two positions. He wants to play safety, but he's not fast enough. The coaches moved him to LB in the spring.

His offer sheet wasn't the best, but according to Rivals, he was their #166 prospect. Semi-big loss. He was a project at LB. He probably would have seen playing time in 2010 at LB. He was passed over by a walkon during the '09 season though.

Not exactly the side of the ball Michigan can really afford to lose anybody. Will this effect the attempt at creating depth or is this just a kid that was a tweener and just did not make it. He is not going to be like Mallett and go somewhere else and blow up is he ?

Maybe maybe not.. time will tell.. and would you quit acting like Mallet was a freaking 2 star recruit. he left due to the system. right wrong or indifferant he is gone and Tate replaced him with Shoelace and DG behind him.. You are a moron..Time will tell if we are better off or not.. If Smith finds a fit at safety then he might become what we thought he could/would be.. good for the kid.. either way. I hope he stays for depth but if walk ons are passing him by maybe just maybe. he is not working out as the stars would have liked..
