I just heard the shocking news out of Florida - Urban Meyer will resign after the Sugar Bowl. There are no details and no coach in waiting will take over. The news only said that it was health reasons. The news did not say if it was Urban's health or a family members. WOW !!!!! is all I can say. How many coaches would ove to coach the #1 program in the nation ?

I've hated Urban Meyer, mostly because he beat my UT rockets when we played BG and because he's been at Florida, who I HATE... but I have to say I hope he gets his health in order time to replace RR after he gets canned next season. I would love to have Urban Meyer in the AA. You'd see this whole theory about "time" and "getting the right players" go right out the window.

Unless he has some severe health problems, he'll be back. How many times has a coach / athlete retired to spend more time with the family, only to come back a few years later? A coach is a coach, they aren't built to sit around the house and bake cookies.

I heard it was a heart condition. This is abosolutley shocking. You would have to say that he and Carroll are the two college coaches who are at the top of the pile right now (followed by Saban and Brown). I am not sad to see him step down but not happy under the conditions in which it occured.
The odds of him coming to A2 under any scenario are probably remote.
Jeez even in a seperate board discussing the health of an SEC coach and a major coaching vacancy someone has to turn it around about RR and his performance at Michigan..wow..

Maybe he was one of those guys who wanted to step down while he was on top. Plus his health has to be a concern. I heard he has a cyst on his brain and he gets headaches when he is stressed. That can't be good. Whatever Urban Meyer wants to do, he is entitled to it. The man has brought success to whichever team he has gone to. He is one of the elite coaches of all time. I wish him the best.
Also - Michigan is 1-0 against Urban Meyer.

I have to respect the guy for making this kind of decision because it is fairly obvious that he loves his job. It takes me by surprise because I would never expect a coach to use this as an excuse to retire and actually be serious about it! This should be some lame ass excuse to cover up some more sinister deed underneath.
Good luck to the guy, he's a hell of a coach and a loss to college football but this can only help Michigan as they come back to the top. It will be very interesting to see where Florida goes for a replacement.

The first question that comes to mind. Did UF know about this two weeks ago? And if they did how would the ND search be any different?
Second thing that comes to mind. Can Spurrier get out of the SC job quick enough and would they even consider him?

If you think that Meyer was stressed at Florida just think of the amount of stress he would be under at ND. He probably was stressed earlier and wanted out but wanted to see Tebow through at Florida.

How stressful is it to be financially secure ($3.5 million - $4 million base salary)? With two National Championships in five years, he is easily guaranteed the Florida coaching job for another ten years. Since his one daughter is going to college out of state and his other one will probably be as well (this year), is he realistically going to be able to spend more time with his "family"?"
Unlike Notre Dame, where the coach is having to constantly recruit nation wide, Urban Meyer can stay in Florida and sleep in his bed at home nearly every night. His program is running on cruise control. The guy is only 45 years of age and they say the heart issue is nothing out of the ordinary.
How did he come the conclusion to step down in the past week? Three weeks ago, he could have resigned and turned the job over to Charlie Strong before Strong took the Lousiville job.

They SAY it's a heart condition that is nothing out of the ordinary. What about the cyst on his brain. That must be nothing out of the ordinary, also. What about him checking into the hospital for "severe dehydration" after the SEC Championship Game when there actually were sources saying he had chest pains? Ordinary. They were talking about it on ESPN. They said it wasn't good enough to win and retain the number one spot. They had to win by 3-4 touchdowns and dominate the number one spot. That can be stressful.
