Great win for the maize and blue. They really attacked the rim which opened up the outside shooters. Not many bad possessions on either side of the floor. Manny should come back for one more year to work on his ball skills and outside shooting. He is a good player but could be great if he wants to be.

Now it's over and yes it justifies storming the court with the way the season's been going

If our football team wins then we get a season sweep in 2010. I wish we could get that kind of effort every game.

Will somebody PLEASE explain this Michigan basketball team to me ? They have to be the most up and down team I have ever seen - period. Nice quality win for them.

I would not have believed that would beat UCONN without Manny and Sims having monster games because that is all the team has been so far. Today, Manny was good, but Sims was just OK. The difference was other guys showed up which hasn't happened all year, Stu, Novak, WRIGHT!

And what is up with the crowd rushing the court? This was #15 UCONN. I mean, come on guys, this is the Big Ten, you've been there before right?

Give me a break. It was just students having fun. UCONN is a big program, and with the way the season's been going for Michigan it was fine

UConn is one of the elite programs in college basketball, even though they aren't at the top this year. Beating them is huge. I guess the crowd of 18-22 year olds should have golf clapped and silently exited the arena in an orderly manner.
By the way, aren't you trolls always bashing UM for having passive fans. So which is it, are they passive or over-excited? Looks like you're just out to criticize, no matter how they react.

As we've discussed before and you pointed out...no inside size, streaky shooting and inconsistent defense. Some nights they all come together and others they all fall apart.

I thought it was a fair observation. UConn is not even a Top 10 team this year. Ohio State beat #6 Purdue and ranked Wisconsin this week - and was very business like doing so. They did not celebrate like they just won the NC. I was surprised to see the fans rush the court like that after beating a #15 team.
I guess when you have not had much to cheer about for a long time - you react that way. Normally that kind of celebration is reserved for beating a #1 team or winning a championship.
It was however a win that will look good on paper if Michigan is on the fence come selection time.

If UConn continues their downward spiral, this game will not improve UM's post season. UM is NIT bound, unless a miracle happens. One win doesn't qualify you for the NCAAs. There are more deserving schools.

Well, the Purdue game was on the road, so I don't expect them to rush the court. And Ohio St. is playing well right now. They expected to beat Wisconsin which they did, and they haven't had the struggles like Michigan has had.

Michigan advanced into the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney last year, beating #4 Duke and #4 UCLA along the way. What has tUOS done since getting blown out of the NC game a few years ago? Michigan basketball fans have had a lot more to cheer about than tUOS fans over the past few years.

Michigan Man,
Hey - I normally understand your points of view, but - I'm not sure where you're coming from on this one. Just look at how OSU rolled in last year's NCAA tourney - werent' they just two points away from the Final Four last year? Or, was that two points away from the Elite Eight? Um, maybe it was two points away from the Sweet Sixteen? No - this can't be true - there were just two points away from forcing a second overtime in the first round. Something's wrong here - that can't be the OSU Buckeye giant killers, can it?
And, what has OSU done on the court this season - they played a solid game against UNC (and lost), they lost to a lower ranked Butler team, and now expect that wins over Purdue and Wisconsin should put them in the Top 10. That is Buckeye logic....

Nobody said they deserve to be in the Top 10. But they are a much different team with Evan Turner back. How would Michigan look if they lost Manny Harris ? Same thing - and then some.
The Huskies lost their third game in a row - not exactly court charging material. I bet the UConn players thought you guys were crazy.

Nut,
I wasn't at the game. And, candidly, I could care less what the UConn players thought - really, I don't think they've given it a second thought. The teams shook hands, coaches shook hands, etc. - while fans came onto the floor.
Let's just take a quick look at who UConn's lost to this season - Duke, Kentucky, Cincy, Pitt, Georgetown, and Michigan. I'm quite content that Michigan is in that group.

UCONN absolutely sucks. I mean losing to Duke, Kentucky, Pitt, Georgetown. Whothe hell do we think we are for rushing the court after beating such a terrible team?

Do college kids even go to the OSU BB games? That would explain fans not running onto the court after a big win. Dont hate on Michigan...

I just did not think it was a big enough win to actually charge teh floor. That's all. It's not like they beat Kentucky or Texas.

You are absolutely right, it is not like beating Kentucky or Texas. UConn last won an NC in 1999 and 2004. Kentucky - 1998. Texas - Never.

This year Texas and Kentucky are the cream of the crop. Just because UConn won it in the past does not mean they are better then the top teams this year. NC won it last year - how good are they ? The best game they played all year happened to be against Ohio State.
The UConn win is a solid win and goes down as a nice quality win. I just don't think its floor charging quality - that's all. I could see if it was MSU - because they are ranked and a big rival. Did Michigan charge the floor when they beat Ohio State ? When it is all said and done that might be a bigger win for Michigan this year then the UConn game - on paper.
Evan Turner or not - the win over OSU is going to be a nice quality win for the Wolverines.

Uconn was also in the final four last year and Kentucky was sitting at home and Texas was eliminated early I believe.

Ohio State vs Michigan in football is the biggest rivalry in all of sports - that is why the celebration is the way it is. If Michigan ever beats us again I'm sure the fans will go nuts and rush the field - like they should. Plus, normally that game means something to one of the teams. The Buckeyes locked up the Big Ten Championship with that win - big difference.

So had OSU beat Indiana to win a Big Ten Championship, would they rush the field?

No - but I question if RR will ever beat Ohio State. The next coach might.
The odds of Ohio State locking up the Big Ten that early is impossible - so no we would not rush the field if we beat Indiana. Michigan is and always will be the last game of the year (unless we get a championship game) - and that is when you lock up championships.

If they did it was because we won the Big Ten Championship and beat down our biggest rival. How does that compare to the UCONN win??

It doesn't compare. Michigan beat a very good team that has given some
hope to fans after a awful start to the season. OSU beat a 3-8 team.
