I think you have to be careful with putting to much weight into how many stars a player has or doesn't have. I think Terrelle Pryor is a prime example of that. For a kid that was supposed to be the 1# player in the land, he hasn't lived up to the hype, and without a really good defense to take pressure off of him, the last two years may have been even worse for him. Some work out and some don't!

How many QB's have won two conference championships and attended two BCS bowls in their first two years - not many. How is that thought of as not working out.

Nut, oSU won inspite of Pryor not becuase of him.
Tressel has not done a good job developing him nor has he done a good job utilizing his unique talents.
Saying that I did sense oSU & Pryor turning the corning a little in the Rose Bowl.

How much of that was actually because of him and not because of your defense?

So when the Buckeyes lose - it's Pryors fault. Then when they win - it's because of the defense. Interesting. Football is the ultimate TEAM sport and TP is the leader of that team. He handles the ball on every offensive play - so he is a major part.
You don't think the QB at Alabama gets helped out by the defense - what about Tebow. The Florida defense gives him plenty of help. Why the double standard - huh ?
Anyway - getting back on subject. Ryan is a nice player. Congrats.

You are right NUT, TP does get more criticism and not enough praise outside of Buckeye nation. But in here at least thats going to happen for several reasons:
1. He's a Buckeye, if nothing else this is going to be a major reason. Just as you guys deflect praise and heap criticism on our QB's.
2. Outrageous praise and coverage of his recruitment. His delaying of committing really snowballed the expectations of his abilities and to be honest he has rarely lived up to them yet.
3. Spurned lover. Due to his putting off his commit it appeared he would possibly go blue as he was supposed to have been a fairly solid OSU commit before RR went to UM. Then to say he was going to OSU because of better chances of getting to the NFL was the nail in the heart based on UM's history of putting QB's in the NFL.
But with all that said you are correct in that if he is criticized for losing he should be praised for winning....only thing is he rarely has put on a good display in those wins. Perhaps next season he will have truly rounded the corner and will be the TP we were all sold on as a recruit, time will tell.

Maybe it was a nail in the heart - but everybody who was responsible for those QB's is gone. Every #1 kid get a lot of attention during the recruiting process - it comes with the territory. He has worked hard, stayed out of trouble and has the trust of his teamates - what else do you want. He is larning on the job - and winning. Most recruits don't start to really shine untill their Junior season - TP is already seasoned. He is poised for a breakout year.
Remember it was you guys that built Tate up in the preseason - not us. It was the Michigan fans that said his mechanics were superior and he was trained to be a spread QB from a young age. He was going to be the missing part you did not have last year. You guys set the bar even higher with all the stupid talk when you guys were 5-0 - but still unproven. Saying he should be in the Hiesman talk - remember.
Like it or not - TP has already been the QB of two teams that won the Big Ten, he beat Michigan twice and is 1-1 in BCS bowls. Not a bad two years in my book.

TP so far has not lived up to expectations..of course very few could have.
He is poised for a big year next year. However his numbers will never be up there with Vince Young, Colt McKoy etc...Tressel will not turn him lose to that degree.

At this stage his stats and results are better then that of Vince Young. Young did not really make a mark untill his Junior year - and broke out against Michigan in the Rose Bowl. TP already has led his team to 2 championships, 2 BCS games, 2 wins over Michigan - and collected the Big Ten FOTY.
What else do you want from the kid ? I would say he has done pretty good so far. He has had to learn a new system (just like the Michigan kids) on the job. He was a spread guy in high school - not he is a hybrid type QB who is asked to do both the spread and pro-style.
Has the road been smooth - NO. But unlike the Michigan QB who fell apart down the stretch - TP leads his team to bowl games and championships. If that is falling short of expectations - then your expectations were way to high. TP might leave Columbus with 4 Big Ten Championships, 4 wins over Michigan and 4 BCS bowls - maybe more.
That to me is pretty damn good. If Tate can manage any of that once in 4 years - he will be looked at as being pretty good. You guys think he is pretty good now - and he has not accomplished crap. look at TP's freshman year - now look at Tate's. Who was the failure ? Who did not match expectations ?
TP played hurt this year. He had kneee damage - yet he did not make excuses. He sucked it up and had a giant game against Oregon. You could tell he was not 100% when he ran - but he played through it. That is what a leader does. He is getting more dangerous - and that scares you guys. It should.

Seems to me that some on here think that OSU is supposed to apologize for being the best in a down conference recently and that Pryor sucks when they lose and the buckeye defense is the only thing that causes them to win. Interesting...
