For Terry & Terrence Talbott signing National Letter of Intents became something as simple as putting pen to paper. But for the other, the task of just picking up a pen and scratching out his signature almost became too much. Scout.com was behind the scenes as Terry and Terrence Talbott made their college choices official.

National Signing Day is celebrated more than ever before and for Terrence Talbott the day saw him dressed for the occasion. But while Terrence and his brother Terry had committed to Michigan prior to their seniors year, Terry was having second thoughts that have been with him for a couple of weeks.
In a year were many high school prospects found themselves jumping from one program to another Terry Talbott thought he was set. That was until a few weeks ago when the coach who recruited Terry and his brother Terrence to Michigan, Jay Hopson, left for a new position at Memphis.

With Hopson gone, Terry saw a heavy push by North Carolina to get him on campus and wearing Carolina Blue. After a great visit to the North Carolina campus, Terry found himself in the middle of a minefield as people were pulling for him to go one way or another.

With his brother Terrence strongly committed to the Wolverines, Terry was feeling a stronger pull to North Carolina.

Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez made a trip to visit Terry in the final days leading up to signing day as did North Carolina head coach Butch Davis. But for the 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman making his college choice became a chore as Terry found himself with many doubts and questions about both programs.

After talking with coaches, family members and doing a lot of soul searching, Terry found himself sitting in Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne head football coach Jay Minton’s office staring at packets from both programs. With his grandmother across the table waiting to put her signature on the official document of choice, and Terrence at his side, Terry started to feel the pressure mount.

Would it be Michigan? The Wolverines were the program he’d given his official pledge to early and where his brother had already signed and faxed his letter of intent.

Would it be North Carolina? The Tar Heels made a great impression on his during his visit and he really hit it off with their defensive line coach.

With an 8:00 assembly set for the athletes at Wayne signing with college programs in front of their families, classmates and coaches, Terry saw the minutes counting down and the pressure build as he looked to anyone who walked into the room for some sort of clue as to what he should do.

One after another Terry would stare at the Letters of Intent from each school. The pressures mounted to a point were Terrence walked out of the room telling his brother he would find out where he was going after he signed.

With encouragement from his grandmother and coach that both schools would offer him the chance to earn a quality education, Terry gave each paper one last stare, signed his name at 8:03 and said it’s done. It was then those in the room learned Michigan was Terry’s choice.

After getting his grandmothers signature on each copy needed for it to be official, Terry walked to the fax machine and watched as Coach Minton insert the papers to be faxed. Terry than walked to the front of the machine, looked upward, took a deep breath and turned to get his photo taken as his finger pushed the button sending his National Letter of Intent to Coach Rodriguez and making Terry the newest member of the Class of 2010.

Still not knowing where his brother had selected, Terrence walked back into the athletic office looking for an answer. It was then that Terry smiled and grabbed the Michigan had Terrence was wearing and put it on his head.

Butch Davis must be able to sell snow to an eskimo if the decision to pick Michigan over UNC was that close. Get real if UNC won 3 games in a season half that stadium would be empty which we may soon see again once Davis leaves for a better offer. Hard to believe that a kid would consider choosing some wannna be football school like UNC over Michigan and the chance to play win or lose before 100000 fans. That must be some powerful snake oil.

Not trying to troll. I'm obviously not one. But all I could think when I read your post (Blue in Ohio) was we won 3 games and then 5 last year.

Well we haven't won enough lately but I doubt that will be the norm. Why go somewhere where losing is the norm unless they land some coach on the rebound until he leaves for another job?
