The Buckeyes played their hearts out and took a team that many think (not me) was the best in the nation right down to the wire - but came up short again. Even though it was a heartbreaking loss I do see some positives that came out of the loss. For one - they showed up to play. Two - many underclassmen played a lot and made big contributions. Three - they held the powerful Texas offense to half the points they normally score.
They came within 20 seconds of beating the so called mighty Longhorns in what will become an instant classic. People who look for the Buckeyes to start a downward spiral will not be happy with what they saw last night. TP is going to become a real problem next year when he is passing better. The young guys on defense and offense when combined with the recruits of last year and this year - make for a very strong foundation. I'm sad for the team because they deserved better. Now the attention will turn to using the momentum gained by this games performance, improving on it and prepare for USC in The Shoe. Just like Michigan fans expect a much different squad next year - so do we. The new look Buckeyes will be bigger, faster and more talented then in years past. Im expecting big things in the next 2 or 3 years.

You're such a d-bag. Tuos played the best game of their lives and Texas played like crap until the second half and tuos still couldn't win. Tressy is the worst big-game coach in the nation. Enjoy tressy's wanker in your mouth as it might not be available for too much longer. Discontent is rumbling through tuos nation.

I'm not sure if OSU played their hearts out entirely. 4th quater I would agree but the dropped passes and the missed tackles were enough to give me a head ache. I'm excited to see TP develop more and hopefully he will. We need more reliable receivers and if Beanie stays Lord help that boy to stop stubbing his toes! Love the talent of this kid but he reminds me an awful lot of Tony Dorsett & the way he would be down from injuries. I don't think it was all Texas played like crap, I think our defense was pretty much all over McCoy. And please.........don't even get me started on the officiating. Final words. Close but no Salsa!! :D

Texas did beat Oklahoma on a neutral field - and they are playing for the NC. With that said I think Florida run the Sooners right out of the stadium. IMO - the best two teams right now are USC and Florida. I told people that Ohio State would match up better with Texas then any other top 5 team - and they did. They held Texas to 3 points at halftime - not bad. The hurry up did bother them and that led to mental breakdowns in coverage. I like the play of our youg guys and I'm sure working on TP's footwork and throwing will be priority #1 all off season.

My hats off to the bucks for going toe to toe with a nonconference power like Texas. Atleast they showed up and played. In Lloyds last few seasons during the bowl loss drought michigan came painfully close to winning many games they could have won. It was a terrible feeling. Atleast this holiday season I was not made miserable by another woulda, coulda, shoulda bowl game loss. Not that 3-9 felt much better but it's been long enough now I feel better.
Not sure how you expect the Buckeyes to be better next year. You will have alot of new starters in many key positions including the loss of your best running back and many offensive lineman and best linebacker. If you win 9 it won't be because you are good but because the big ten stinks. USC in columbus next year posting a possible 50 point loss to the bucks at the horseshoe next year. Wonder if then they will come up with a sack tressel website we michigan fans can frequent.

What game were you watching??? If i was a buckeye fan TP would really be worrying me right now. Everyone already knew he is a great runner, now everyone knows he cant pass for beans! give me a break if he wasnt mobile he wouldnt have DIII offers. He is at the end of his freshman season and cant throw anything but short passes, thats really bad! As a michigan fan I loved TP's performance last night, if beokman or whatever his name is started the entire game OSU wins imo.

Actually next year will be very good. The Buckeyes will be bigger and stronger in many positions. The offensive line will be better, the defensive line will be better, linebackers will be even to this year, WR will be improved and TP will have a whole off season to work on his throwing. If you look at the teams Ohio State has lost to in the past three years - there is not one slug.
Florida, Illinois, LSU,USC,Penn State and Texas. Sure it would of been nice to win a few of those games but the Buckeyes have been to 7 BCS bowls and sit at 4-3. What you don't see Ohio State doing is losing to 1AA, MAC or lower level Big Ten teams.
Are the Buckeyes perfect - no. Would I like to see some imagination on offense and defense - Yes. But to think for a second Ohio State is going to be bad all of a sudden or start slipping just shows your lack of knowledge. Look at the roster and then look at the recruits last year and this year. Then tell me with a stright face that the Buckeyes are slipping. In fact Michigan is going to have a hard time catching Ohio State if the Buckeyes keep out recruiting them.

Nut,
In your first paragraph, you seem to infer that OSU's D is "fine" and that the focus needs to be on the O. My question is this - you had 20 seniors returning on this year's team - where do you see such great improvement next year. No doubt, OSU's got a solid team - but, exceptional? I don't think so. OSU played their hearts out last night, and (unfortunately - since I'm a Big 10 homer) came up short.
I think that OSU needs to focus on the D - and be able to execute schemes that will stop very powerful and diverse offenses. I believe that unless a new DC steps in, the case will be the same. OSU will put up similar points next season, perhaps a few more against lesser quality opponents, but the Buckeyes will struggle against USC and upper echelon teams (which I hope Michigan returns to) next season.

They landed Sabino last year as well. He was the #1 LB in the nation. When you combine that with Rose, Gibson, Homan, Rolle, Chekwa,Coleman,Hines, Larimore,Moeller,Oliver,Russell,Spitler,Washington , Worthington and Wilson on the defensive side of the ball - thats a good foundation. That does not even include this years recruit Dorian Bell (PA) who many think is the #1 LB this year. They also have Simon and Fellows coming in for defensive line depth this year.
The offensive side of the ball starts with a group of highly rated offensive linemen from last years class. Many of the kids in last years offensive line class were rated #1 nationally at their position. The plan is to add Hall to that mix as well. You already know about Pryor. He may need help passing (which he will get) but he is special and will only get better. Beanie is still hinting at coming back. Boom Herron has been coming out of his shell of late and could be a very good back. They also landed Berry (Fla) in this years class for insurance. The WR's are going to be very much like what you see in the PAC 10 and Big 12 - big and fast. Posey and Thomas got valuable playing time this year as did Sazenbacher. They also have 6'5 230 Jake Stoneburner ready for next year. Brian Hartline is leaning toward coming back as well. We also have Carter (Fla) coming in this year and if he is anything like his Dad - watch out. Ray Small also will be back next year returning kick and punts.
I would say the glass is half full and not half empty like many of you wish to believe. The Buckeyes are getting bigger and stronger - you guys just don't know it or have not been paying close attention to the last few recruiting classes.

Bigger and stronger doesn't cut it anymore - after the last 3 bowl games and the USC game, you should be more worried about speed, especially on defense. There is no reason that Cosby should be lighting up your secondary like he did yesterday.
Also, NCs are won by QBs like Tebow, Leinert, etc. Vince Young was an aberration, and if you think that Pryor is going to lead you to the promised land with his feet alone your are kidding yourself. I'll take Colt McCoy any day over the 1-dimensional Pryor...

What the f- you callin' a great foundation of players for OSU? You rattle off a number of recruits from the OVER RANKED state of Ohio who have NO experience and expect us to believe they are going to be great?
You are not going to replace the whole team next year and expect good results. Just as you said we would suck this year because of too many question marks, so does the same apply to OSU.
We no longer fear your team. No longer. Why should we? OSU is proven vulnerable, proven now to be on the decline. Why should we be impressed anymore?
OSU next loss is to USC. This is going to be very ugly next year, in front of the home town crowd. Sanchez will come back, just to torture you!

I only remember 2 & 1 of those shouldn't have been called. The ref didn't get a clear view of that hit since he was on the other side of McCoy and didn't see that his arms wrapped around the shoulders & not the head/neck area. 1osunut ,what the hell are you talkin about, havent you learned by now that it is more than winning the big10 title, the big picture is winning bowl games ,beating top quality teams ,being able to compete against teams from the big12 or sec, ,outside of winning the big10 which by all accounts on a national level is nothing great , your coach ,school and idiot fans havent done sshit, your great coach has lost the last 3 bcs games , your coach has also lost the last 5 games to top 10 teams and last but not least your coach and team have gotten beat in the last 4 big games they have played, and remember ,because you said it before the 2008 season , we are loaded and should go 12 -0 or 11-1 and have a shot at the title, i guess you ment the big10 title ,which by the way you backed into that, so i wouldnt get your panties all wet over your 2009 team, and yes pryor is going to get better , but ,the rest of the team is good but shaky, and i wouldnt put my apples on your young o line either, shugert and adams have had shoulder surgery and w/those type of injurys at their position ,,those guys might not pan out.. and boom heron is a product of the ohio state hype machine because he is a average back , i guess pryors gonna have to do it all by himself isnt he...

Look around the college landscape and show me a team that wins all the games they are supposed to. USC loses to a weak ass team every year. LSU had a horrible year after winning the NC. Florida lost to Ole Miss. Texas lost to Texas Tech. Alabama lost to Utah. Oklahoma has crapped the bed in how many stright bowl games. The Buckeyes may have had their trouble the last three years with the elite of the elite - but they are not by any means weak or slipping. Ohio State will field a solid team under Tressel every year. Do we lose to 1AA schools - NO. Do we lose to MAC schools - No. Do we lose to lower level Big 10 schools - NO. I just hope the Bucks are learning something from these games. They at least showed up Monday which I consider a step in the right direction. Look at our losses since 06. unfortunately with tressel exposed and his playbook useless, ohio state in decline and michigan back at the top will still make for a boring big ten.

But he is delusional and full of crap anyways. He thinks Tressel can just reload the whole team based on his "great recruits." He will soon learn.....

No you guys are going to turn everything around in one year with a freshman QB and a lousy defense. You guys make it sound like everybody is going to stay put and only Michigan is going to improve. The truth is that Michigan has a lot of holes and will have less experience then Ohio State at many positions. Like always you guys talk big in the off season and then crap the bed. Two years ago it was English this, Henne,Hart and Long that - nothing. Last year it was - how you going to stop RR, McGUffie this, defense will get us by till offense improves that - you had the worst season in Michigan history. Next year Michigan will be a 5 win or less team. Start working on your excuses.

I'll take that bet. The winner gets to pick the signature the loser has to use for one month. Sound good?

Atleast we are coming up with an innovative coach that has won everywhere he has been, you on the other hand are on the decline with a coach everyone has figured out. you may be better than us the next two years but after that tressel will be gone and your gonna be starting all over again wait and see. and for the love of god come up with a new arguement your such a broken record.

That is where you guys are wrong - what has RR won ? How many NC does he have ? What is his record against his rival ? It's funny how RR's record in the Big East got better when Virgina Tech and Miami left. RR is still greatly unproven. He had a few good years because of Slayton and White. He has yet to prove he can win without a superstar at QB. Last year was a perfect example.

RR has PROVEN he can take good talent and make them play above their level, the exact opposite of carr, who consistently had people playing below their level.
So with a top 10 recruiting class, it's hard to see why we wouldn't be excited about what he brings to the table.

I must have missed something; I thought this thread was "Close but no cigar" not "Rape a 1OSUNUT.":D I've laughed my a$$ off through half of this thread. 1OSUNUT, I think tressel will continue to field a decent team, but I also find it hard to believe you will replace that many seniors and have a better season than this year. If you do, I think it reflects terribly on the Big10, unless you beat USC.

Who cares about the Big 10 anymore? At least TOSU is playing USC next year and not the Citadel. Is Florida going to replace Tebow? No. He's a monster back that cannot be replaced, either next year or anytime. Pryor will get better, so will Michigan. I remember when FSU/Miami looked like they would be a lock forever. Florida will have some more lean years like it had in 2007. Maybe it will start tonight. Then YOU can feel like the Buffalo Bills for a change.

did someone say that 1osunut got raped, oh thats right ,my mistake it has been thee university of ohio state that continues to get raped, in fact on a national stage they keep getting rearended, and now that beenie is gone , let the fun begin, one thing wont change though tressel will still have his head up his aasssss

I think oSU continues to recruit well and will reload but losing that many seniors will have to mean a step down for them next season. I agree that as Pryor gets better he will be tough. IF he ever develops to be a decent passer he should be in the heisman talk.
Even though oSU played better than I expected against Texas they still lost and continue to get beaten by the top teams on a national stage...that has to bother the buckeye nation.
The program may or may not be in decline but if they are not moving forward & improving then they will get passed by...passed by the elite teams of college football each year.

Im expecting big things in the next 2 or 3 years.
funny how OUS fans take a loss and turn it into a good thang
while Michigan loses to texas in the rose on the last play...and Osu fans say its just another loss for UM....yea yea yea....the loss to teaxas for Osu is just another

I guess when the buckeyes keep losing on the big boy stage and losing in horrible fashion makes buckeye nation start looking for "moral" victories.
They did play better than I expected but in the end it still goes down as an "L".
By the way Michigan's game with Texas was the definition of a classic, the last Fiesta bowl was an exciting game but I would not quite put it in the classic category. (close though)
