Boating accident survivor and former South Florida player Nick Schuyler just wrote a book about the accident called "Not without hope" which comes out Tuesday. It happened Feb, 2009 in the Gulf of Mexico that killed Detroit Lion Corey Smith, Oakland Raider Marquis Cooper and former South Florida player William Bleakley.
I don't know if you guys remember this accident, but it is truly a miracle that Nick Schuyler is alive. The four guys went out on a fishing trip on Cooper's 21 foot boat. The anchor got stuck. Cooper accelerated the boat to try to get the anchor loose when it then tipped over. So here they are in the middle of the ocean hanging onto the side of the boat. Waves are rough and going over their heads and the water is cold. The three other players eventually drowned while Schuyler was eventually rescued 46 hours later sitting on the back of the overturned boat while hanging onto the motor.
I think that's one of everyone's nightmare to be lost in the water in the middle of the ocean when it's pitch dark out. Could you imagine how scary that must have been?
