Talk about it in The Fort
West Monroe, La., linebacker Barkevious Mingo is one of the top five prospects in the state of Louisiana, but the Army All-American has yet to start taking his official visits. The 6-5, 205-pound Mingo does have his first visit set up, however, and will be taking it this weekend.
"I'm going to take a visit next weekend to Michigan," Mingo reported. "Growing up I just liked Michigan and you've got to stay true to your first team.
"Michigan has been on Barkevious for awhile. They always recruit this area well," said West Monroe head coach Don Shows.
Mingo plans to schedule his remaining official visits starting this week
According to Mingo, LSU, Alabama and USC are also in line for official visits. Coach Shows also mentioned Connecticut as a possible official visit destination.
Heading into his official visit slate, though, Mingo lists LSU, Alabama and USC as his top three teams. Michigan has to make up ground, but Mingo said they can do that via this upcoming official visit.
"They just need to be themselves, do the best they can and we'll see what happens," Mingo commented.
Mingo took part in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl this past Saturday and notched one solo tackle for the West team. Prior to leaving for San Antonio to partake in the Army Bowl, Mingo had only set up the trip to Michigan and had not settled on dates for his remaining visits.
"I don't have any more planned, but I'm going to try and do that after (returning from the Army game)," Mingo said.
Although his West team dropped a 30-17 decision to the East in the Army Bowl, Mingo appreciated the experience and felt it will benefit him going forward.
"It was a good experience for everybody to come out here in play in front of family, in front of the nation and in front of the Army," Mingo said. "We can carry that on to the rest of our lives."
Rivals.com ranks Mingo as the No. 174 player in the country, the No. 10 outside linebacker and the No. 5 prospect in the state of Louisiana.
Boyd down to three: "Michigan, Duke, Kansas State and some other schools called my school this week, but I don't want to get too many involved," the Rivals100 member explained. "Basically I'm down to Clemson, Ohio State and Oregon. It's going to be a hard decision and one I'll make before signing day."
