I would love to see a game in The Big Hole - but there is no way in hell I would wear maize and blue. I'm not saying I would wear Buckeye colors either - unless it's a OSU / Michigan game. I would wear something neutral and just enjoy the game.
Also why would Michigan have to put "All in for Michigan" on the towels. Has there been so many detractors that you have to resell the program to the fans ? Teams should not have to see who is in and who is out - especially a school like Michigan. It sounds like the school or athletic dept is trying to sell RR and the football team to the fans.

To your knowledge, is Michigan the only sports program to use a slogan? The Red Wings have a new slogan almost every year - is the team that won a Stanley Cup in 2008 and went to the 7th game of the Finals last yearalso desperate to sell their hockey team to the fans? Sure...

Sure teams have slogans - like " One for the Thumb" or "Next Year is Now" etc. I have not heard of a slogan for a team like "All in for Michigan". It just seems like a sales job thats all.

Three things:
1) it rhymes
2) it plays off the popularity of Hold Em poker these days
and most importantly
3) it is MOST DEFINITELY a sales job. Never before in Michigan history has the program been faced with this kind of adversity. As such, never before in Michigan football history has there been so much descent among Michigan faithful. The coaching staff, the players, and the administration of the university are trying to keep the loyalty of their fan base. Personally, I think that is a very good thing. I think it shows that the powers that be are aware of the discontent, aren't overlooking it, but at the same time they're asking people to remain faithful and impliedly promising that their loyalty will be rewarded shortly. I think that when people see the difference between this year's team and last year's team they're going to be pleased, and those that weren't will be ALL IN FOR MICHIGAN. When times are tough is when you really see who is in and who is out.

So what??? Do you really care that much. It's been this way for over a year now. Why the problem now? Great job on hijacking a thread once again.

The word is "dissent", Sten. Although the use of "descent" could also work in the context of your point.

Honestly, is criticizing the fact that a college uses a slogan (which so many colleges do now that it is commonplace) threadworthy?

I heard tUOS was adopting the "All In For tUOS" slogan and towel this coming season. Rumor has it that they have already shipped from China and are in the water as we speak. It's even being claimed that even after 10 or 15 washes there are no signs of fading at all---not that it would really matter anyway, except for a small handful of people...
