View Full Version : Is UM recruiting of TX jinxed?

I cannot help but wonder. I know each decommitment/transfer has its own issues, but we seem to have trouble holding onto TX kids in particular: Mallett (almost TX), McGuffie, Beaver, Peace, Fera. A lot of them end up staying or moving back south. Any idea why this is? We don't seem to have so much trouble with FL or CA kids, so it can't be just the cold.

Each had a seperate issue. IMO good riddance to Beaver he will not be missed. Tate this year Gardner next all that needs to be said. We also have held on to T-Rob and Troy Woolfolk.

Beaver's decommit actually made me feel better about Forcier! The Beav apparently didn't want to compete for the job, or just didn't think he could.

Yeah, but all said and done, he is a loss to this class. I know we stand in better shape for a stud QB next year, but he would have added much needed quality dual-threat QB depth right away.

I think you're right Todd.

There is bumper sticker down here that reads, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could!" Like no other place within the United States, Texans love their state, and they love being Texans.

The only reason that UT football had a lull in their success was due to the old SW Conference messing up their TV deals, and many of the top kids in Texas wanted to be seen, and went else where. Now, they're here to stay, and the Big 12 has a lot to do with that. That doesn't explain kids that come and leave, but I think it makes a difference when guys see friends and peers that are home AND getting to play top quality football. Michigan, let's face it, is a bit out of the way these days. It didn't used to be, it was at one time, one of the centers of American industry and culture. If you're from Michigan and you come to TX, you'll know why I live here!

The GUNS!

No, no, just kidding, the freakin' weather is amazing! Yeah it's hot in the summer, but shit, it's hot everywhere (cuz of Global Warming and all -- did you know that the ice caps are melting and polar bears are drowning, and every time you waste paper you're really displaying your hatred for polar bears as a species?!)! At least it never gets to -15, and you only sweat from your shins a 8:00 am for a few months, and you don't have to bundle up and venture out into bitter ass cold that makes you eyes water and your fingers sting!

So when you couple the good weather with the fact that Texas as a State is booming (or should I say, just not as bad as Michigan), and that the people here are all about Texas and being Texans -- i.e., if you're playing football for Michigan, that is great, but you'd be looked at better if you played for the Horns, or the Aggies, the Red Raiders, even TCU and Baylor -- then you have a recipe for transfers and decommits.

Oh yeah, don't forget the fact that there are more hot women in one room in Austin than there are perhaps in all of Ann Arbor (except for the Jewish Sorority girls, but they won't talk to you if you're a genitle, so they don't count for me).

Shevodric probably came up here, and like every other school they set him up with a date, and she was always the hottest chick they could find. Except at Michigan, he realized that the hottest chick, wasn't all that hot. I mean she was probably passable, but the kid is from Wichita Falls, and even though that place is a bit country, I promise you there are a lot of fine ass women there -- they're everywhere in TX!

I wonder historically -- the only Texan I can think of off the top of my head is Jerret Irons...anyone else?

I am serious Justin. Have you ever been to TX? If you had, you'd go back to Michigan and think you' fell into an ugly farm!

I've never been to Texas (other than an airport), or Michigan so I can't grade the women there, but FL sounds a lot like Texas. I think it really has to do with weather. The weather allows you to wear shorts and tank tops most of the year, and you get to go to the beach, river, and springs a lot. Women don't want to wear those clothes and bathing suits and not look good doing it. Although I am willing to admit we have some ugly one's too, usually in our redneck areas where they haven't discovered toothpaste yet. For the most part though, there are some hot chicks around here. Let me particularly point out the University of Florida. I don't know what it is about that place, but there are stunners everywhere...you don't want to miss the first warm day after the winter because they're all flashing it around in their miniskirts and short shorts. The university has a campus wide speed limit of 20 mph, which really sucks because it's a huge campus. If you ask an official of the university they'll probably tell you it for all the bickers and kids walking across the streets. If you ask me, it's so you don't crash your car (which I've alomost done several times) when you come up behind a girl jogging around here.....bounce, jiggle, jiggle....bounce, jiggle, jiggle.

I lived in Dallas for 5 years straight out of college. Spent many weekends in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio as well. Yes the Texas women are beautiful. The big problem with them is that if you don't drive a BMW then they give you no play. I have now lived north of San Diego for 10 years and SoCal women are the best looking in the entire country. IMO the 4 hot spots for good looking women are SoCal, South Florida, Texas and Vegas with SoCal women being the best looking per capita. Plus they aren't prudes like the Texas women.

The point I made about Texas recruiting difficulties centered around Texas culture, the rise of the Texas programs, the Texas economy, and the weather -- the part about the women was meant as joke. However, it has garnered the most responses -- I see where all of your heads are! LOL!

I have to add one place in here. Scottsdale, AZ. I have a girlfriend that moved there about 5 yrs. ago and she will never come back. I have visited a few times and let me tell you. All of her friends are HOT! Not to mention, the nightlife is fantastic and just check out Lake Havasu!

I am editing my post for michAGAIN. Sorry,

In all seriousness, being from Ohio, I could not even imagine going half way across the country to play ball, when I have some of the best programs right in my backyard. If I had the option to go to Michigan and play ball, or go to someplace I had no family, no friends, and no experience with the locals, the weather etc. The choice would be easy. It's the same for these kids, just turn around the circumstances.

In the future, please do not post about beautiful women in Texas without providing proof. Thank you.

I have been to TX. My former job I traveled to every state but Hawaii. I think the hottest women are in Vegas and SoCal. Michigan has alot of hot women though midwest girls are cool too. In TX I had some friends in the Houston and SA areas and the girls were prudes the accent can get annoying and country music sucks. The best thing to come out of TX was Pantera.

SoCal would be a lot of the Hispanic and Armenian crowd, no? Nice diversity there. I personally think women are hot everywhere. I always thought football players got the hot goods anyway, so why worry about limited quantity?

I don't Texas women are prudes, they're just more proper perhaps and expect men to behave like gentlemen, and to be treated like ladies, I suppose. They certainly don't swear and carry on like women from the Northeast do! I personally, like the accents, all accents for that matter, and if you know how to treat them, they aren't prudes at all!

But, as someone else said, there are beautiful women everywhere in the world, and thanks God for that!

I was thinking about socal ore the Anaheim area with the gorgeous blonds but I like the diversity as well.
