TOP RECRUIT
Brandon Mitchell
QUARTERBACK
6'4" 218
Amite

I was able to go watch Amite play during the 2006 season and saw this tall kid playing quarterback. I knew before the game that he was committed to play basketball at LSU as a sophomore in high school. When I left the game, I thought this kid was very raw and new to the game but possessed great size and superb ability. If he can learn how to play the game, he could be a star.

Now two years later, Mitchell has grown in the game. He has learned how to play quarterback in outstanding fashion. Brandon Mitchell now has the arm coaches covet, makes better reads and can set in the pocket and pick out his wide receivers better. In the past, he would not set his feet and run out of the pocket, but that skill came with experence over the last two years.

Brandon has also put over 20 pounds on his frame and has been over 6'3 since his sophomore season. He can easily weigh 230 pounds and not carry any fat while still maintaining speed and quickness.

Mitchell is now wide open about what sport he will play in college. His love for football has seen him rescind his basketball commitment to LSU. Mitchell averaged over 22 points a game on the hardwood during the 2007 season and is still thought of as one of the top five basketball recruits in the state of Louisiana for2008.

Brandon is also All-State in track and can run an amazing 11.2 in the 100 meters at 218 pounds. He also high jumps 6 feet, 6 inches in track and field.

In his junior season, Brandon Mitchell had 28 passing touchdowns, nine rushing touchdowns, four interceptions, and 36 tackles on defense. Brandon has been clocked at 4.5 in the forty-yard dash and is capable of playing safety, wide receiver tight end, linebacker or defensive end in college. His ACT score is an 18 and he has a super 3.6 GPA. Brandon Mitchell benches 235 pounds, squats 415 pounds and cleans 285 pounds which is impressive for a quarterback.

His favorite schools in order are LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M , Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. In my opinion Mitchell has more upside than even former Amite quarterback Lester Richard, who was 6'5 220 coming out of High School but did not have the versatility to play other positions. Richard signed with LSU out of high school before transferring to Tulane and had some success playing and starting for Tulane. Mitchell would be a good-get for any major program.

Just saw this on Rivals; big, speedy kid, kinda Newsome-like. His throwing looks Pryor-like in the video though, lofty and sloow. Would be a good pickup, though I am normally wary of kids who have in their favorites 10 southern schools....and Michigan. Lets see.
