Tennessee - Lane Kiffin
Do you guys think this was a good hire? It seems like all of the Vol fans are really excited about him, reminds me of us last year when RR was hired. His dad is supposedly following him, so expect wicked defense their in the future. At the very least, the Vols will have great recruiting classes. But then again, maybe recruiting will be the only bright aspect like Charlie Wies' current tenure.
Clemson - Someone that's not RR
Good call Mark May, reinforcing my belief you're nothing but a tool.
Thoughts on this stuff so far? What choices do you think the other schools will make with Brian Kelly still open? Don't want to see him at Notre Dame.

It will be interesting to see how this hire affects the recruits at UT.

I think he was a good hire, he had allot of success at USC. As with RR time will tell though.

The better part of the Kiffin deal is getting his dad to come along. Monte Kiffin knows Defense. I think that Tennessee needs this in a big way. The key to Tennessee's future success will be the offense. Since, the D will give up points to the upper echelon teams in the SEC - i.e. Florida.
I don't know who Kiffin's bringing in as the OC, but - someone like Norm Chow could be a huge difference maker.
On the recruiting side, Lane Kiffin's youth will serve him well with the athletes, the question is - how will it sit with their parents. My guess, TN's recruiting, which has always been solid, will continue to be solid in the future. I'm sure that Kiffin will talk to players and say - "you want to know what it takes to be successful in the NFL, let me tell you - I've been a head coach there, our DC (my dad) and I know, and we can teach you and develop you into an NFL player, if you've got the desire." That story will work on 16, 17, and 18 year olds.

The initial reaction on ESPN was that he was not the best hire they could've gotten, and I agree. I think Brian Kelly would've turned them into a powerhouse. This guy has only been an assistant at USC and a failure in the NFL, so what has he accomplished? I do believe however that he could beat OSU being he is going to an SEC school.

I feel bad for UT.... first off i cant stand that annoying orange, second i hate rocky top.
Sports center ran a story on kiffin and was showing the press conference and i have never seen a coach and an ad look so nervous when they were holding up ther jersey.
secondly, i really didnt like it when he was ripping the raider organization. I understand that its not paradise over there, but when u are being introduced as UT['s new football coach and half the time at your press conference u are still bashing oakland...
IMMATURE.... and it will not help him at UT
oh yeah and keep telling yourself you will beat florida next year. If tebow doesnt leave (he wont) u will loose by 35 points

According to their Scout/Rivals site, ESPN and a host of others...
Charlie Weis is returning to ND next year.

Hammer,
I hope he stays even longer than that... Honestly, I'd love to see ND at 8-4, with losses to Michigan, Michigan State, USC, and BC. That will give ND just enough hope to keep him around.
The thing that's going to be Charlie's undoing is this - ND may no longer be the second winningest college football program. I believe that honor now belongs to Texas. And, though it's just a game, it means that ND is going to have to find a way to "catch up" and win more games than Texas to do that.
I feel the ND alumni aren't going to let Charlie drive too far down the wrong path before yanking the cord - and, if ND finishes at 6-6 or 7-5 next season, I doubt he lasts until the bowl game.

Does anyone actually see Notre Dame reclaiming their #2 winningest program spot anytime soon? Hell, I guess at the rate we're going now Texas could surpass us to though.

I agree, they aren't going to give him to much more rope.
