The reason why you see so many int's in the red zone is simple - the field is condensed and everybody is congested. You see a guy break open and then by the time you decide to throw - he is no longer open. If you watch enough college football you will see those kind of picks happen every week. DR is a fine player - but defenses will adapt to contain and stop him, they always do when there is a star player. You guys got so used to seeing DR break off runs of 80 yards - that you think its going to happen every week. Sure he will do dynamic things against the bad teams - but its a lot harder when you play against defenses that swarm and have speed. Michigan State was DR's first taste of a upper tier defense. You don't have as much time to progress through your reads like you do against UMass and BG. DR is playing the hardest position to play in football and it will become harder as teams continue to game plan for him.

Dude we all know you are stupid, stop reinforcing the point, LOL

My god you are pathetic. Maybe RR will dumb down the offense for him;)

Beam -

There is so much more to playing QB then hanging 300+ yard games. I rather have a guy run for 40 yards, pass for 180, manage the game, have zero turnovers and win the game. You guys rather have a guy rack up 500+ yards and need last minute heroics to win a game. That is the difference.

Tony Romo had 407 yards of passing on Sunday - and lost. Why did he lose - because he threw 3 ints. You guys laugh at TP - but he has learned how to manage a game and protect the ball. I will take that all day - especially when you head out on the road to Iowa and Wisconsin.

As for the Michigan defense - it has nothing to do with the players not executing the scemes correctly - THEY CANNOT TACKLE. I don't care what sceme you run - the first element is making the tackle. That is basic defense 101. Seeing Wolverines getting run over, dragged and run around is something that should NEVER happen. How many times did it take 5 Wolverines to bring down a rb or wr ? I made a comment after watching the BTN preseason show (Michigan visit) that I saw a lot of missed tackles and was told it was early. The same was seen when you guys were bragging about how goor DR looked in the scrimmage. GR has not fixed and or taught these kids anything.

You are pathetic, LOL

I feel sorry for you, you nothing of value.

Just remember DR has a bad game he owns up to, TP the offense has to get "Dumbed" down for him.

DR has a way better Body of work his SO year. ESPN voted him 1 offensive player through the first half of the season.

OSU has played powered cup teams also, Miami turned out to be soft as hell, LOL

Lets see if DR wins the Big Ten, beat its biggest rival, wins The Rose Bowl and is named Rose Bowl MVP. That is what TP did his Sophmore year. TP already won the Freshman comparison by damn near default.

Because Pryor was the sole reason why all of those happened, right? Put DR in that situation, and he does all of that, and maybe more.

Absolutely - if Denard had OSU's defense this year, the Heisman would be on his trophy shelf this December.

We already heard Sten's excuses - lets hear yours.

You don't seem to grasp the concept of what an "excuse" is Nut. I am not making excuses for RR, I am simply stating facts. An excuse is used to mitigate or absolve one of responsibility for some act. I am NOT saying that RR shouldn't be held accountable for the lack of defense (whatever that means), what I am saying is that Michigan's defense is where its offense was in 2008 -- i.e., starting a very few unskilled obviously uncoachable seniors that are left-overs from the previous regimes negligent last few recruiting classes, walk-ons, and underclassmen. As we saw last season with the offense, starting young players en mass is a sure fire recipe for struggles, BUT, it is also a long-term plus as these players seem to mature quickly and become productive in their 2nd year -- trial by fire.

Carr put Michigan in this position, that is a fact -- and nothing anyone can say is going to change that fact. Further, the ONLY thing that is going to make Michigan's defense better is time and an diligent effort on the recruiting and development -- read what RR had so say on the subject in his Monday presser. All RR and his staff can do is play the hand they were dealt -- they're not magicians nor is this the NFL in which they can trade for veteran players to make the difference.

You seem to equate discussing the cause of a matter to be an excuse, and you seem to think that because it's being discussed that nobody should be looking to RR to solve the problem. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is on RR and GRob to do EVERYTHING they can to bring the Michigan defense back to respectability. I only bring it up as a rebuttal to people that claim that RR and/or GRob need to be fired because of how bad the defense is, NOT to mitigate (i.e., excuse) their responsibility for fixing it. It is their problem now, 100% but it is NOT in anyway a problem that they CAUSED.

NUT why do you keep saying facts are excuses? We've explained countless times why the defense is where it which EXPLAINS why they are playing at the level they are. You can't just stick anyone in a helmet, show them how to hit and expect them to be All Big Ten.

Last years defense should have been filled with recruits from 2005 through 2009. In those years Carr and RR recruited 49 defensive players of which 28 were with the team in 2009. First of all our recruiting during those years for defense were low compared to schools such as OSU, MSU, PSU and Bama. Take those same schools, check attrition and UM is far below them in retaining players, a full 20% lower than OSU for instance. We're higher than even Bama, a school known for trying to shed players because of over recruiting.
Now looking at the recruiting classes, in 2009 all of the 2005 class was gone. Out of the 2008 class only Fitzgerald, Martin, Demens and Floyd are left with only Martin having any impact form that class. So right there this defense is missing a large number of players.
As for assigning blame, no one can take all of it but a large part of it is on the players themselves and Carr with some it on RR. Players like Eugene Germany, Quinton Woods, Johnny Sears, Chris Richards, Carson Butler, Adrian Witty and Boubacar Cissko did it to themselves. There were also a few players that left due to medical issues. Some players were unable to get into UM due to grades or scores, even before Demar Dorsey.
Issues from Carr were few DB's recruited form 2005-2008. Small recruiting classes. High attrition mostly from uncontrollables which hit more highly rated players than the norm. Very few of the players that they took chances on panned out. Safety was unrecruited for several years causing them to burn Brandon Harrison's redshirt. Most of the LB recruits were overrated and never really contributed much.
On RR: no diamonds in the rough recruited, no one brought in to fit a scheme unlike the offense- more of a shotgun approach to recruiting on D. Too much focus on the offense, granted it was needed but should have researched more for defensive help and offered, some talented 3 stars would have accepted. Lastly RR has to take some blame for the DC issues, hiring Schafer and then mid-season cutting him out and firing him at the end. This hurt recruiting as well and put them back yet another year.

The D is the picture of the perfect storm that hit UM in the late Carr and early RR years. Nothing more, nothing less. Thats why it cannot be fixed overnight because first they have to fix the recruiting woes, get some talent and then put it to use. If you want to use the 3-3-5, fine but recruit for it. Do some research and find those diamond 3 star players that aren't going to leave and teach them to hit, hit and hit some more.

Big difference between 'pouting' on the bench in front of the nation and 'addressing' your teammates in a locker room behind closed doors!

That's why the 'shoe' is on the other foot...
