San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos in London because of a separated left shoulder.

Head coach Mike Singletary said Wednesday that Smith will be sidelined for 2 to 3 weeks and Troy Smith will start for the Niners (1-6) at Wembley Stadium.

"Troy Smith gives us a good opportunity to win this game," Singletary said. "He has enough of the offense to play."

My guess is that Troy plays well enough to earn the starting job - even when Alex is ready again. The Niners will beat Denver in England. I hope they activate Ted Ginn, Jr so they can restore some of that past magic.

hey dont blame me for ted ginn only playing 1 play , roy halls tackle of ginn in the endzone celebration is all you need to know, except for the 5 for 23 all world perfomance by smith in the biggest game of his life , how many yards did your supposed no1 team get 82 and 5 freekin 1st downs, now thats a majic act

I don't think any magic will be replicated as Ginn has failed to show any ability to be a go to guy or even any consistency at the NFL level. Nor for that matter has Troy.

Just watched the highlights on NFL.com. Nice seeing Troy on a football field making big plays again. Great to see him take advantage of the chance he's been given, I hope he does well. An OSU QB doing well in the NFL sounds good.

believe me after a few more games of troy smith starting , ill want to forget and so will everyone else, and brady was always better then smith , we just didnt know how great he was , lloyd should get alot of credit for shaping this young mans career, tommy boy has more talent in his right toe then smith and pryor do all together,
