This is a problem that is rampant in the SEC and non existent in the B10. The funny thing is that the B10 is still widely considered the best conference behind the SEC and its because the SEC is full of slime bag coaches who cheat to win.
This has been one of my biggest arguments for Rich Rodriguez, the guy loves his players. I think Rodriguez believes that his job as coach is much more than just winning football games, its about building strong young men. For all the problems I had with Carrs last few coaching years I could never complain to much because Carr was and is a man of integrity. Rich Rodriguez is as well and thats something that is a must if you coach at Michigan.

A little more on the oversigning front, this from http://www.the-ozone.net/football/postseason/oversigning.html
in the four recruiting classes from 2007 to 2010, Arkansas signed 30 more players than Ohio State did. In four seasons, they signed 109 players to the Buckeyes' 79.
In other words, they signed almost two entire recruiting classes more than Ohio State did.
The Big Ten, to their detriment, chooses not to engage in such cutthroatery, and yes, it is to their detriment. Their record against the SEC is even in bowl games of late, but imagine if they had 22 extra players to pore through per team. Do you really think they wouldn't have made the most of their “do-overs”?
And thats not all. When your finished reading that articel go check out these numbers http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Headlinin-The-SEC-plays-the-numbers-game-post?urn=ncaaf-299309
eight of ten SEC teams in bowl games have signed at least 10 more players since '07 than their upcoming opponents, including huge margins for Mississippi State (+20 over Michigan), Alabama (+22 over Michigan State) and Auburn (+19 over Oregon). The Bulldogs, Crimson Tide and Tigers have all signed upwards of 110 players in four years, meaning at least 25 of those signees in each case – the equivalent of a full recruiting class – had to wash out in one fashion or another to get those rosters in under the NCAA's 85-scholarship limit this year.

I agree this is a horrible practice. ESPN outside the lines did a special on this a few weeks ago.
However if it is within the rules and the SEC refuses to crack down on it all the coaches are going to do it in order to stay competitive.

Have I ever mentioned before that I think Les Miles is a dirty bastard? Well he is.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6014772
I dont fault a guy for using the prospect of another employer coming in to take you away to leverage a higher salary. I mean thats just common practice in any job, one of the most full proof methods to secure a raise in any field is the threat of losing you to another company that would use you in the same capacity. I dont mind that he signed a new deal and all that.
What bothers me is the quotes from this guy that just ooze dirty bastard.
"I'm one of those guys that believe where you are at is where you live your life,"
Not quit sure I understand that but it was his response to a question about his relationship with Michigan and how he decided not to leave LSu. Its a simple enough comment that can easily be intepreted in different ways but what I get out of it is a total bullshit statement that meant absolutely nothing and was concieved as he stood on the podium speaking the words. I imagine him thinking it mere fractions of a second before saying it and the inner voice in his head saying "oh yeah, I like that. That sounds real good."
On ESPN Radio's "The Scott Van Pelt Show," Miles didn't go into whether Michigan offered him a position, but said he was very happy to be at LSU.
"I enjoy who I represent. And my family being happy and enjoying the opportunities the state of Louisiana provides for them just allowed me to remain consistent to a commitment to these people," Miles told Van Pelt.
He didnt mention it because he wasnt offered! He absolutely used the situation to leverage himself a new contract and he wasnt going to admit that on national radio. So instead he makes another blanket statement about " I like Joey and Bobby, the weather is to good to pass up. They love me and I love them" yadda, yadda. It makes him sound good on the radio and those are the kind of quotes that more gullible people eat up like apple pie. He avoids making himself look bad and in fact politics himself another gold star.
"Just because I'm loyal and care and recognize that the credential of Michigan really has marked my life, I can't go by the sincerity and the authenticity of the people that I represent here in the state of Louisiana. It's just too important."
"I always allowed for that, but it kept comfortably returning to the people and the commitment. I enjoy this community."
"I told them I was going to be here when I recruited them, and for me not to respect those people that I committed to is just very difficult," Miles said.
The #1 quote of the day
"My strength and my weakness is loyalty," Miles began, "and I'll always see it as a strength."
Again and again he makes these flowery blanket statements about loyalty and love and care for the community. They all sound so good on the surface but they just reek of fake and all I can see is someone trying really hard to make a good public image for himself. I really think that Brandons comments alluding to some coaches who are more about themselves and not so much concerned with there players were directed towards Miles. The coach who has oversigned recruiting classes with the intent to drop a few unwanted kids from his team just to make the new guys he likes fit the roster. Oh, and then blatantly lies about it at SEC media days.
Miles is a snake and deserves to be in the SEC and I am so glad that Brandon agrees. Now the verdict is still out on Harbaugh. I dont think that he is in the same category as Miles I think that Harbaugh simply wanted to be an NFL coach. Each of us in our lives has some goal or dream that is their ulltimate achievement. Something that you think about all the time, something that you want so bad for yourself. Harbaugh saw the NFL as that plateau so who is to blame the guy for jumping at the chance. Besides, where are the wierd quotes of loyalty and respect from Harbaugh. There are none because the guy is better than that. So much for Les Miles and I say good riddance.
