The Michigan Man

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) scored 1:15 into the game and the No. 3-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team never looked back in a dominating 4-1 win at No. 15 Ohio State on Friday (Feb. 20) at Value City Arena. Louie Caporusso (Woodbridge, Ontario) reached the 40-point mark for the season by notching his second straight three-assist game. Caporusso's left wing, Tim Miller (Davisburg, Mich.), had a goal and an assist, while his right wing, the aforementioned Wohlberg, also had a 1-1-2 line. Defenseman Chad Langlais (Spokane, Wash.) was an unexpected spark offensively, potting a career-high two goals.
Bryan Hogan (Highland, Mich.) was not tested often but stopped all 20 shots that came his way. Michigan's penalty kill was also paramount, negating all seven Buckeye power plays, with the help of Hogan's eight saves with U-M a man down.
The Wolverines required just 75 seconds to take a 1-0 lead in the game's opening moments. With the puck deep in OSU territory, Miller fed a short pass to Caporusso left of the crease. Although Caporusso's shot was stopped by Dustin Carlson, Wohlberg was left open on the right side to cash in on the rebound for his 13th goal of the season.
The squads exchanged power plays over the next 10 minutes with OSU getting two chances to tie the score up, but Hogan made five total saves on the Buckeye power plays to keep U-M ahead.
Michigan received two favorable bounces for its second goal of the game at 12:17. Langlais' one-timer from atop the left circle hit an initial defenseman in the right slot, slid over to the far side and then deflected off another defenseman and into the goal. Caporusso and Travis Turnbull (Chesterfield, Mo.) got the first and second assists, respectively. Turnbull's presence in front of the net helped create the traffic in front of the Buckeye goal.
Michigan poured on the pressure in the second period, scoring twice more to take a commanding 4-0 lead after 40 minutes. Langlais earned his first career multi-goal game at 10:59 while the Wolverines were on a power play. Langlais took a pass from Steve Kampfer (Jackson, Mich.), curled around the right circle and snapped a shot cleanly through Carlson's five-hole. Ben Winnett (New Westminster, B.C.) had the second assist.
Caporusso earned his second playmaker in as many games when Miller banged in a shot from the low slot. Miller drove the puck to the front of the net and eventually beat the goalie low after Caporusso could not get off a clean shot from the left of the net. Wohlberg also assisted on the play.
The third period was lacking in action as the teams combined for just eight shots on goal. OSU's Corey Toy spoiled the U-M shutout with a shorthanded goal with 30 seconds remaining.
Michigan will look to complete the weekend and season series sweep tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 21). Faceoff is set for 8:05 p.m. EST and the game will be televised by CBS College Sports.

It's time to play "Know Your Nut". Come on, play along and see how well you know 1OSUNUT. Keep your own score and grade yourself at the end of the game.
As Michigan Man pointed out, the Wolverines handled the Buckeyes easily in hockey. What do you think 1OSUNUT will say about it?
If you think 1OSUNUT will say:
1. "Hockey? Football and Basketball are the only sports that count"
(Give yourself 30 points. You obviously understand Nut)
2. "What you fail to see is that Ohio State has talent - lots of talent."
(Give yourself 4 points. This was too easy. Nut always says this)
3. "One thing for sure Michigan won't be in a BCS bowl anytime soon."
(Give yourself 1 point. Again, this one was too easy. What it has to do with hockey, I don't know)
4. "You're an idiot."
(Give yourself 1 point. Again, too easy, who hasn't he called an idiot?)
5. "In the Big Ten - we are the BIG DOG and the Wolverines are one of the teams that got out of our way."
(Give yourself 10 points. This is classic Nut)
6. "I happen to think Ohio State is actually on the rise - not decline. Based on their last two or three classes the Buckeyes are recruiting better then they ever... "
(Give yourself 18 points and shame on you if you forgot this one. Remember, according to Nut, the Buckeyes are always getting better)
7. "We've owned you in football for as long as I can remember and my memory goes back almost 7 years."
(Give yourself 12 points if you got the first half of his sentence correct. Add 100 points to your score if you know that Nut only remembers the last 7 years)
OK, time to add up the score--
0 - 4 points Thank your guardian angel that you don't know anything about Nut.
5 - 12 points You seem to be familiar with Nut but you don't dwell on him. Good for you.
13 - 25 points You obviously suffer from Nut nightmares
26 - 200 points It's time to put Nut on IGNORE. May God have mercy on your soul!

You forgot, he typically doesn't reply in hockey threads because....
A) he doesn't count it as a real sport, but wrestling is
B) he doesn't reply about sports where UM is so much more superior to OSU

The bucks started off flat on Friday, but righted the ship and came back Saturday playing like the team we saw all year. Beating Michigan is becoming a tradition at tOSU. You guys were completely out of your element after beating us on Friday. Funny!

As always, if you actually did some background reading before posting, you'd know that a) OSU kicked a goal in, and b) UM had an allowable goal waved off. Thats a 2 goal swing and a win. Too bad you need paid Zebra help at home to win.

We're still 3-1 against OSU this year. You guys wish you were half as good as UM has been or still are at hockey.

We have plenty more sports we can take as well. And with the improvements coming in those sports they're not exactly safe for you guys.

If you're referring to Cheerleading competition forget it, tOSU just placed 6th in the nation at the National Cheerleading championships.

hilarious. how many points do i get for this submission?
"OSU could of won but our best athletes don't play hockey - they play football. If Thadeus Gibson were cycling along the boards deep in you're zone on skates instead of putting whatever walk-on quarterback you start on his ass, we'd be the champs of the big ten in hockey and regularly make the bcs like we do in football."
Its only a matter of time though before Markel has the Bucks landing top five recruiting classes in hockey like Tressel does in football. with all the pro talent we're developing into the NHL like Umberger and Steckel, we'll soon build a fence around ohio and beronsen won't steal any more of our home grown talent.
i took my kid to see talawanda play kettering last friday night and the kid in net for kettering looked like the second coming of patrick wah. scout and rivals both say he's coming to columbus.
GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
strong points:
misused "could have"; "they're"; immediately turned the thread to football; reminded you of your bad quarterback play last year; called the ccha the big ten; called the frozen four the bcs"; spelled Roy's name phonetically in the French sound.
weak points:
kettering vs talawanda is too far of a drive for Nut to take his kid for a game. i couldnt think of any northeast ohio hockey teams.
does know a great goaltender once played whose name sounds like Wah.
would not know umberger and steckel
failed to mention that women's basketball is the 3rd biggest sport, not hockey.
