my heart and prayers go out to the families.

sure, Smith was a free agent and likley to leave the Lions (who wouldnt) but still the historical fate of Lions players is stranger then fiction at times.

So he'd rather get lost at sea than play for the Lions again? All jokes aside though, I hope everyone's alright. Those storms can be pretty dangerous.

Lets all hope and pray for their safe return, but doesnt it seem like this kind of thing always happens to detroit.

One was rescued this morning, and he said they've been in the water since midday Saturday. He was holding on to the flipped boat and the other 3 (including 2 NFL players) were floating elsewhere with their life vests on.

No link to support but I caught a bit on CNN channel surfing and the guy that was found on the boat said the other 3 drifted away with life jackets on.

Thes semi-good news. 1) they were still alive and 2) they had orange life jackets on.

Bad news, the water is 63° and its been a couple days now.

This story really got to me as I enjoy fishing on Lake St. Claire during the summer and I couldn't imagine being in the water 35 miles out into the ocean. And for multiple days with those sizes of waves, it all is just terrible. From what I've read though, Cooper knew what he was doing as he had been doing it his whole life. That's why he went out Saturday and not Sunday.

TNT , i too love to fish , and really what would go thru your head ,to make you want to go 30 miles out under reported crappy conditions, i fish the great lakes several times a year , ,i have been out 50 miles into lake superior ,but only when i know what the weather is and on a boat that is 30 feet or longer, these guys were not using very good judgment and paid the price, you say you fish lake st/clair , great fishing lake ,but we wouldnt go out fishing with 6 or 8 foot waves , again this is sad and never should have happend..

Other fishermen in the area went out that day in similar sized boats as it seems pretty common, but I saw a few specifically say they knew they needed to be in by 2 PM because those waves would be getting too big. From what I've heard, these football players were under the impression the weather wouldn't worsen until Sunday.

tnt, i have fished lake st/clair many times ,but never for musky, i cant believe how crouded the lake is with boats in the summer, i mean you could walk for a mile ,BOAT TO BOAT, we used to fish the anchor bay area, caught lots of sheep head, my sister has a beautiful summer mansion on lake charlovoix, that is a great fishing lake, we go up there in the summer for several weeks , golf ,shop ,fish and just hang out. you cant beat the great lakes area for anything, just like you cant beat loving the michigan wolverines, well i guess thats enough talk , GO BLUE.

I was out in the Gulf the same day as them on a 150 foot boat, and it was damn scary. A 21 foot boat I can not even imagine.
