I think that you mean commit number four, unless I missed someone.

I'd really like to see us landing guys at positions of desperate need like LB, DL. It's great getting all these athletes where some may be able to switch over to defense, but it just seems like the offensive side of the team is getting crowded.

This is how RR has been recruiting since he got there. I remember hearing a lot of the same concerns last year about the lack of defensive and offensive balance in recruiting. I really think he still has a Big East mentality when it comes to recruiting just look at the emphasis on offense and the recruitment of a guy like McGuffie. I think these are the things that are going to define RR's success or failure at Um.

How about your get your facts straight, Carr recruited Mcguffie he was already commited when RR got here.
DJ williamson looks real quick, he definitely looks like a perfect spread WR, def a good steal from OSU. Its so early in the process anyone worrying about no defense yet should give it some time, RR knows the teams needs better than any of us. The Lb's and Dlinemen will come, with an improved season this year our 2010 class will be very good.

I agree with the perspectives that RR has been focused on recruiting for the O. And, I also believe that one of the reasons that GR is to focus on the D - and that GR will recruit the D effectively. Perhaps that was one of Shafer's shortcomings that RR wanted to have addressed.
We may not be as deep on D as we'd like to be. I would feel more comfortable with more "experienced" DL's / LB's - we'll just need to see how things evolve over the next season or two. I'm expecting we'll see improvement this season - from a fundamental and scheme standpoint - and we'll either "migrate" athletes to Defensive positions based on their skills and abilities or have focused recruiting activities for the positions where we're not deep enough.

I don't remember hearing these "concerns" last year. Maybe that was before my time on here. For 2009, 22 commits, 9 defense, 13 offense, with 1 or 2 of those guys being possible switches to defense once they get to AA.
I remember a concern being that UM and RR wouldn't be able to recruit good WRs. Well, he's already got 3 commitments from WRs, all 6'2" or taller. And a likely commit from a 4th WR who is also 6'2". Not to mention, if Williamson does go blue, that would be two early commitments from the state of Ohio.

Yeah I know. I'm not really worried, I just think it'd be nice to see some commitments from top recruits in positions that we need badly. I'm glad we're getting all this talent at the skill positions, but I'd really like to see RR sure up that defense. I enjoy watching a great offense, but a great defense can be just as, if not more, exciting to watch.

Agreed, but I dont think this really means he is only focusing on O, it just happens to be that the real early commits happen to be on the offense side of the ball. I'm sure he is going after LB's and Dlinmen just has hard, he saw the circus that was the 08 michigan defense and im sure he will do alot to improve it. And after watching that tape I dont think DJ would be moved to D he looked like a better receiver than any of our commits (maybe not Ricardo but I have never seen tape on him) and a perfect Spread WR.

Oh, I know. RR's already offered on something around 20 defensive prospects. The "buzz" just seems to be on the offensive side, which is why we see a few very early commitments. I'm sure, as you said earlier, those defensive prospects are probably waiting to see how the season turns out, and more importantly, if GR can turn the defense around.

I believe it was Todd that I was referencing. Of course since you don't remember it may not have happened.......I'm glad that Ohio kids are once again worthy of Um's efforts. When Um couldn't land any it was because they were slow and RR was recruiting nationally. Now with a few commits, you guys are falling all over yourselves to brag about it. I'm glad though because most people know that Ohio is an important recruiting state and hopefully with landing some talent from this state, the Um/OSU rivalry may become relevant again.

Don't lump me in with "you guys". I was defending the state of Ohio. Go back and find it yourself. I know what I said. Yes, there were some on here bashing tuos because they got very few commits from outside of ohio and the surrounding states. I was not one of them.

The thing you have to consider also is that with the glut of WR's on the team some of the guys currently on the roster and others being recruited stand a good chance of moving to the defensive backfield. I know Coach Rod wants to have options at receiver.

You guys can talk about how you recruit nationally all you want - but many of the greatest players in Michigan's history are Buckeye State products. Slam the talent in Ohio all you want - but where did your last two Hiesman winners come from ?

The best part is that they are ashamed to have been born in Ohio. Don't blame them with cry babies like bighousemike and weirdos like you lurking in the shadows.

Michigan has had a bunch of talent that left ohio to come to Michigan, good for them. Hell, I could care less where kids come from, as long as they are good and want to be Wolverines. Who cares where they come from as long as they end up in Maize & Blue.

I don't see anyone slamming the Ohio talent here Nut. The only one to bring up Ohio player bashing was your troll boy Silver Slippers. Oh, and you.

Of course nobody is bashing Ohio talent right now....because you are getting Ohio kids to commit. The way it works is when recruits from Ohio start committing to OSU people on here will start saying that they were too slow for RR's system and that Um is better off without them because Um recruits nationally.

Now you're getting it. Jeez, only took you two years.
