I was a science major so by nature I am very curious. I notice some interesting web names on this site. As they say, behind every name there is a story. I'd like to know how many of you came up with your names? Mine, Bossgobbler23 comes from my strong hunting background. I used to be a turkey hunting guide and am crazy about anything to do with turkey hunting and calling. The head of the flock is called the Bossgobbler. 23 has always been my sports number.

deltguy2 - I am an alumni of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, "Delts" is what we were referred to as. The # 2 is for Charles Woodson, I went to HS with him and he wore that # in HS and at Michigan so I use it as a lucky #

Combination of my first initial and first 6 letters of my last name. Primarily used by colleges as usernames. I just got used to it and continue to use it for a lot of sites.

and #21 for my baseball and basketball number throughout high school and now. I had #11 for football because I was a QB, so #21 wasn't an option!!!

I came up with name back in the mid 90's when trying to come up with a screen name for my first IP, AOL. Since then I have kept the same screen name pretty much wherever I go. At the time on AOL you were limited to 10 characters and of course Wolverine was already taken so I took off the "E's" and added in my birthday, 7-04 (July 4th).

I was thinking about my beloved alma mater - the Maize and Blue - and after thinking about it, liked the word "amazing" to describe our squad and tradition.

So, it just morphed into amazinblue - perhaps something Don Ufer would have thought appropriate.

While it may appear that there is nothing thought provoking about mine, I actually got it from one of my favorite desktop wallpapers that was up a while ago on digitalblasphemy.com called 'big blue boy'. Yup, I'm a nerd.

That'd be sweet to have July 4th birthday. Everyone celebrates it and there are always big parties going on everywhere. Damn, every year must be awesome.

To the contrary, my grandmother's birthday was the same day so until the last couple of years (yes, she passed away 3 years ago) I always shared my birthday with grandma. Now that I'm older I don't really care so much about celebrating my birthday. But you're right, it is COOL!

Cedar Point eh? Ahh, the good ol' days. I grew up 20 min. from Sandusky so I worked there the summer between HS and college. I was a lifeguard at Soak City and lived in those crappy ass dorms for the major of the summer. Many drunken nights....ahh I miss those days!

It was late autumn 1993 I believe. Gary and I were celebrating another great season under his jurisdiction with a few beers, had the lights dimmed low, and had Seger's "Night Moves" on the stereo. I whispered softly in his ear that they should recruit this kid down the road in Fremont, Ohio and he would bring a national championship. He whispered softly back that If I stayed the night I would be a champion and one thing led to another. I'll let you use your imagination. It was great to be a Michigan fan back in those days and truly a "lover" of the program.

MAIZEandBLUEsuedeshoes
12-06-2008, 12:25 AM
Bet you think I'm a big Elvis fan don't ya---not quite. When I came up with mine, I kept thinking about Maize N Blue or Wolverine--- a lot of common names you would think of(already taken pretty much). So I kept the maize and blue, added the suede shoes== MAIZEandBLUEsuedeshoes. I'm not a diehard Elvis fan--- although I like a few of his songs. The main reason I added the "suedeshoes" to spice it up, and because when I think of jumping up or dancing around or fist pumping(like when Michigan scores a touchdown, or sometimes pre-game-- I get pretty excited....anything like that) it kinda reminds me of being on my feet-- so thats where the shoes comes into play.......

PLUS.. Elvis is/was "THE KING"--- and that's what Michigan football is going to be again... and will always be...

Actually, this thread is pretty cool because I was curious about some of these before. I have to say that the "Night Moves" image was a bit freaky, but a good laugh.

I guess mine's pretty self-evident unless you're an Ohio Special-ed grad. I'll just let them wonder.:D

Thats funny, Mine is pretty obvious as well. I have seen the program going downhill for the last 5 or so years and after witnessing first hand that loss last year to App. St. then Oregon, I nearly bled to death! But the funny thing is that I live in the town where the first T-Bird rolled off the assembly line. Not to mention my High School mascot was a T-Bird along with the name of our teams.

when I was a freshman in highschool, now im a sophomore in college, I was coming up with a screen name for AIM and I thought about how good looking I was. I truly believed that people should know this. KO means knock out and I added fine to make it knockout fine. Then the year I created it was 05. So I slapped that on the end. I think its a smooth name. A girl helped me come up with it and I thought she was good looking. So i wanted to impress her with my wit.

Buzz is a nick name I got from playing sports in highschool and from when I was in the Army....it's part of my last name.

Sten Carlson is my name, well actually, Sten is my middle name and I am a junior, and I've always gone by Sten. It's a Swedish family name -- my great grand father was named Sten, my grand father's middle name was Sten, as is my father's, and my only male cousin on my father's side of the family.

Down here in Texas people have a hard time saying Sten, they tend to call me Stan, which is ok. When people ask about my name, at least down here, I tell them that my folks were big British gun enthusiasts -- the STEN Gun from WWII.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pistolet_maszynowy_STEN,_Muzeum_Or%C5%82a_Bia %C5%82ego.jpg

Not all that funny, but at least then they get the idea how my name is supposed to be pronounced.

Medic

My summers home from Michigan were spent lifeguarding San Diego beaches (gotta pay for that out of state tuition somehow!).

Summer of 96 on labor day we registered 124 rescues and had 14 serious assist rescues (summer crowd, huge southern swell out of season + terrible swimmers = yikes). Anyhow, I was one of two EMTs on the staff and several times that day we had "Medic! tower ____!" come over the radio to which I or the other guy would respond.

After that day everyone just called me Medic. I've used it ever since as an online handle.

Revelli
04-15-2009, 01:20 AM
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/96/WilliamRevelli.gifWilliam D. Revelli was the Director of bands at Michigan for quite a long time. He had graduated from the University of Chicago who used to be Michigan's biggest football rival, until the university of Chicago board of regents decided they were going to be a gentlemanly university who did not play football. Revelli, almost single handedly, is responsible for the fame that the Michigan bands once garnered. From the trip to (the then soviet) Russia with his legendary band, to the marching band you see ever saturday in the BigHouse (aka, the hole that yost dug). For more history on the man... do a google search and educate yourself. If the band were as well known as the football team, he would be Yost, Chrysler, and Bo all wrapped into one legendary figure.

Personality-wise he was a dictatorial man (some called him little Hitler,... but never to his face) who believed in hard dicipline and was feared by all who went through his bands. But he could also be a kind, gentle soul, in who's eyes you could always see the fire of a much younger man. He was much like another grandfather figure to me.

My father was in the band in the 60's, as was my wife in the late 90's. I had always wanted to go to Michigan but never made the grades in high school, so had to go to EMU, just down the road.

Basically, if you have ever watched the movie RUDY, that is the story of my life, except substitute the Michigan Marching Band for the notre dame football team.

Best quote of Revelli's: When teaching Bo how to sing the fight song, he actually made fun of him a little telling him, "You're a Michigan Man now, we don't half-heartedly raise our right fist in the air when we sing the victors, we THRUST our arms high in a punching motion, as if we are clobbering the enemy."
