I'm a big fan, but wow, this seems to be extremely high! But I like it, the national press is taking note of Beilein and his great progress at Michigan.

He mentions that "The Wolverines make for a strong three-team race at the top of the Big Ten with Michigan State and Purdue." Hmmm...didn't even mention any other supposedly "elite" schools, interesting.

ESPN's Andy Katz puts Michigan hoops in top 10

When ESPN college basketball expert Andy Katz released his annual top 25 for next season after the Final Four, it was intriguing. He had Michigan projected at No. 11.

It was surprising, given the Wolverines were ranked for only three weeks last year, never rising above No. 23 in the Associated Press poll.

Apparently, he's pretty confident in a team coming off a 9-9 record in Big Ten play, moving U-M up to No. 9 in this week's update following the early entry NBA draft declarations.

Writes Katz: "The Wolverines make for a strong three-team race at the top of the Big Ten with Michigan State and Purdue. Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims decided to go back to Ann Arbor and weren't tempted by false hope in the draft. As a result, Michigan should have its strongest team in years."

The Wolverines return most of their first NCAA tournament team in the past 11 years and will be filling in their biggest hole with 7-foot center Ben Cronin in the middle.

Perhaps as impressive was that Katz had U-M trailing only No. 2 MSU and No. 5 Purdue among Big Ten teams and ahead of No. 16 Minnesota, No. 18 Ohio State and No. 19 Illinois.

I expect some improvement from an already good team but this guy is smoking some really sticky shit if he thinks that M is a top 10 team. The same goes for the football team

Unless they find some size somewhere Katz is smoking crack. Top 10 ? They might not be Top 5 in the Big Ten.
