Does anyone know if Jeremy Gallon took and passed the ACT test since his last failed attempt in the winter?

Well, the last test date was April 4th, and we haven't heard one way or another, so, I'm assuming he didn't take it on that date. How long does it take for the results to come back? The next, and final, test date of the year is June 13. We won't know for a while, unless he took it on April 4th.

Yeah, he's having Clearinghouse issues because of his ACT/SAT scores. He's only got one more chance, so let's hope he's hitting the books.

Looks like the score are released 11 days after the testing date. So, I don't think he took the April version, or he didn't pass that one either.

Michigan's offensive coaches recently described four-star Class of 2009 signee Jeremy Gallon as a unique talent. The 5-8, 165-pound Apopka, Fla., native could help immediately but there are concerns that he will not qualify academically …
"I'm fine, I'm on track," Gallon said. "My counselors said my GPA is where it needs to be and I just have to get my SAT score. I thought about running track this spring but I've been focusing on the books instead so that I'm ready to go in time for graduation."
Gallon is awaiting the results of the most recent SAT he took and is hopeful he will receive a passing score so that he can refocus on football. The Army All-American Bowl participant talks often with U-M's coaches, especially quarterbacks coach Rod Smith, and is eager to make his way to Ann Arbor.
"We actually just talk about everyday stuff – school, my family – but we talk some football too and they're real excited to throw me into the mix at slot and see what I can do in the fall," Gallon said.
The Apopka standout, who excelled at quarterback during his prep career, couldn't make it up to Ann Arbor for a spring practice but hasn't lost any desire to wear the winged helmet.
"I can't wait to play for Michigan and play for those coaches," he said. "I know there are some guys up there already but as soon as I get there I think I can catch up to them quickly."
Gallon is scheduled to graduate June 3 and should be on the U-M campus soon afterwards, though the Wolverines coaches have not yet given him a specific day to pack his bags.
"I'm ready when they are," he said.

I hope he qualifies. He is the recruit that I was most impressed with. He is a game changer.

PTLG: what was the date on that article? I'm assuming it was written this past week. There was an SAT test date on May 3rd. So, I guess we'll find out this time next week.

Game changer or not, if you don't deserve to get into Michigan academically, I don't really want him in Ann Arbor. Now, of course I realize that most football players get special treatment no matter what school they go to. But one of the things that I have always been proud of is the fact that Michigan has such high academic standards and yet maintains an excellent football program with that caliber of people. It is THE biggest difference between Michigan and Ohio State.
If he has the GPA to get into Michigan, Gallon shouldn't be having all these problems getting a decent enough ACT/SAT score to get accepted into Michigan. That kind of stuff makes me nervous.

If he has the grades and not the ACT/SAT scores it could be an issue with his test taking abilities. Some kids don't do well with standardized testing. I think that it will end up being a non-issue though.

Look at the situation with J.B. Fitzgerald last year. The coaches gave him every opportunity to become a member of the team and he failed so they said their goodbyes and never looked back.
Im not worried. I hope he makes it but if he doesnt then so be it

isnt it amaizing that the rules are so different for STUDENT ATHLETES AND REGULAR STUDENTS, HOW MANY OF YOU MICHIGAN GRADS OR CURRENT STUDENTS WOULD HAVE CONSIDERD MICHIGAN IF YOU THOUGHT YOU COULDNT GET ATLEAST A 26 OR 28 ON YOUR ACT, YOU CANT EVEN GET INTO MICHIGAN UNLESS YOUR GPA IS 3.8 AND YOUR TEST SCORES ARE GREAT, DOES ANYONE HAVE SOME FACTS ON THIS, GALLON BETTER BE TAKING MORE THEN BASKETWEAVING 101, OR IS THIS WHAT COLLEGE SPORTS HAVE TURNED INTO..

Yeah, that is pretty much what college sports have turned in to. Even at a lower level (MAC) school, it happens. My good buddy from high school was an engineering student at Purdue and he had some football players in a few of his classes that NEVER showed up and still ended up with passing grades. He even said that he saw a letter from the Athletic Department that the athletes had to give to their professors that stated they couldn't received any grades lower than a C. Don't know how truthful that is, but I think it's safe to say they get help any time they need it.
I've been to college as both a regular student and as a student-athlete. I think it was more the sport I played, but I received nothing more than a regular student. So, it has more to do with the sport and also the level of play.

I dont think its really right but we all know that it happens and it happens everywhere. The University of Michigan has I believe 23 varsity sports and Football almost single handedly pays for all of them. Football brings in millions in revenue for a school that lives off its own funds. To "stay competitive" schools take projects because that kid who is terrible in class is an uber athlete on the field that brings the school money and recognition!
Brian Cook has talked about this before. On one side you have the regular student that feels cheated because they dont get the privileges that the big time athletes recieve. On the other side are the athletes themselves that struggle to balance a schedule of almost fulltime work in improving in their sport and a fulltime students workload. look at a kid like Deshawn Sims, Sims might be fairly intelligent but from his interviews I get the impression if it wasnt for Basketball he would be flipping burgers right now. So he gets special treatment at UM because if he didnt then he wouldnt be able to play but more importantly he probably wouldnt graduate!
There are so many kids around the U.S. that might never reach their potential because they dont get the opportunity to succeed. Some of that is their fault and some of it isnt but if this kid is an awesome Football player and football gives him the opportunity to achieve something in his life is it very fair to ask him to be a full time athlete and student and he has to do it all on his own! Its not fair to regular students that they have to bust their ass to graduate without the help that the student-athletes get but I make the argument that a large majority of those student-athletes wouldnt graduate if it werent for the help they recieve

And I'm one of the poor test takers, but the fact remains that you can't get a good GPA without taking tests, and if you're a bad tester you wouldn't get a high GPA. The ACT/SAT are a do-over,...used to show that just because you had a couple bad semesters here and there doesn't mean your stupid.

YOU CANT EVEN GET INTO MICHIGAN UNLESS YOUR GPA IS 3.8 AND YOUR TEST SCORES ARE GREAT
That might be generous. There wasn't a single friggin kid in my entire quad freshmen year who wasn't the valedictorian or salutatorian at their high school. I think the lowest SAT score was 1380 in my hall (1990's here I know they score it differently now).
If the kid is struggling to meet basic requirements/standards that does not bode well at all. Bad test taker or not there IS something to be said for basic aptitude. Look at Vince Young....

I always considered myself a pretty good student. I did not attend Michigan but I had a 3.93 GPA. Took the ACT 1 times as a Jr and got a 23. I would have liked to think that I could have went to Michigan and been successful. I think a lot of the SAT/ACT depends on when you take it. There is no doubt in my mind that if I would have taken it 1/2 more times, I could have gotten a 26-28.
Maybe he just hasn't taken the right classes yet. Hopefully. He can play

Not true, there are many kids that are taking tests orally now. The written test isn't for every kid. Sure, to pull good grades the study skills have to be there, but schools are doing more to adjust to kids test taking issues.

I agree with what you said Deep, but I'd also add that while tests may be a major portion of your grade in college, participation/attendence, in-class work, and homework generally make up a large portion of grades in high school. My girlfriend is a high school math teacher. It's amazing how many kids skip class, or are suspended, or just don't do ANYTHING in class.
In reality, yes, there may be a few kids that genuinely have problems taking tests, but most of these kids are making excuses for just not doing any work. You know, it's pretty funny. My girlfriend has an asian kid in one of her classes. She was born there, grew up there, and just recently moved to the US. This girl is constantly coming up to my girlfriend to ask for "more work, more work, more work". Meanwhile, the American kids can't even finish the original homework. It's the way our society is.

I agree, my wife is a high school English teacher and the stories that I have heard are ridiculous. The majority of kids just don’t want to work hard anymore, things have been given to easily to them.

thats hardly a sign of intelligence. other countries may be ahead of the U.S. in grades and paper work, but their practical and anylitical skills are so far behind us, its should be an embarassment for them. unfortunately when the democrats sold america down the river in 1994, it sent our whole economy into its current state. manufacturing and production, the best in the world, was the base of our whole capitalist system, but now that politicians have encouraged companies to send those jobs out of country, well, you know the outcome.

The last test was on May 3rd and the results are available 11 days after the test date. So, the results should be out tomorrow IF HE TOOK THE TEST. If he didn't, someone at his HS needs to be fired.

I have been out of HS for years now so I may not be up to date on all the current practices, but my wife, like so many here have said, is a HS teacher. Granted, she works for an "alternative" school, but that fact not withstanding, I have heard no evidence that they are doing any more oral testing than they did when I was in HS. If you have info to the contrary I would love to hear it. I always try to let the facts be my guide and if I am wrong, than so be it. I remain however unconviced as of yet. Please convice me of the oral testing statement; I await the factual data that you have seen.
Don't get me wrong... I am VERY,VERY, VERY anxious to see Gallon in Maize and Blue in the fall. From everything I have heard he is quite an amazing guy to watch. I have even heard some say he is "the next Woodson." We should be so fortunate.
(P.S.- I ran track against Woodson in HS. He was unbelievable! Wiped me off the map in the mile relay. I didn't feel so bad about it after I saw him beat everyone else while playing ball at M though.)

Sorry, no hard data on numbers. Just what my wife and other teachers have told me about the state of the public school system in my area and from a couple other states. It just seems like schools are being told to just push these kids through more now, then what they used to.
I think that Gallon will be fine and will be in the Maize and Blue in short order.
