So now that the details of the GM bankruptcy have been released and the federal government will have a permanent 40% stake in GM. I wonder how they will compete against private car companies? They wouldn't do anything crazy like force people to buy their cars would they?

Oh shit. Well....ok maybe they will force car makers to make cars that cost a shitload more to make to ensure the new 39 mpg rule (that traditionally no one buys). But we will make that money back on gas savings right?

Crap! So when the government loses tax revenue because people are using less gas, our gas taxes will go up to compensate? Well at least the new cars GM makes that we will be forced to buy will be the best damn cars on the road and even though we will pay more for them I'm sure they will be A+ quality with Fiat at the helm.

I particularly like Obama's comment on less money going overseas and more money staying here to save and spend. That's exactly how the government is looking at it. Well, you're not spending as much as you used to on the oil, and you're buying less of it, causing our revenues to dip. Let's tap into those savings and raise your gas taxes. You better believe it. It was also very comforting to know that California is leading the way in this legislation. Everything that state supports just turns to gold, ehh?

I wonder with the US Government in the car business if GM loses billions of dollars every year if it will be considered:

I'm with you, the UAW is toxic. Saw some fool on FOX news today arguing about all the good they have done. In principle, I'm not against all unions. Many great injustices were suffered by unorganized workforces during the Great Depression. Without sticking together, the workforce can get screwed. In a normal free-market (not just thousands of starving individuals chomping at the bit to do unskilled labor for food), the employee and employer can com to an agreement on the true value of labor. When a union has a company by the balls, forcing them to overpay $25-30/hr for labor vs their competitor, they're as bad and greeedy as those employers of the Great Depression. That's my opinion anyway.
