Hey Guys,
I know this could/ or should be classified under the "Other University Sports Forum", but there doesn't seem to be near as much activity since here since the hack job. Hoping to get more responses, I'm posting here. My question is what are everyone's thoughts about the Championship Games today?
ACC - who really cares. The top ranked ACC team wasn't even playing and the winner of the game isn't even in the top 25.
SEC - was a classic game of defense and field position. I was pretty worried coming out of halftime. What was Urban thinking not calling a timeout after a third down stop and a minute left in the first half? A minute is a lifetime to FLA; they could easily reach FG range. I was afraid we were regressing to the non-aggressive Ole Miss game plan there for awhile. Bama comes out gets a FLA 3 and out and scores 10 unanswered. Then it's Tebow time, delivering the Vitamin T. Momentum swung throughout the game on a couple of huge plays. Early in the game was the 2 play 80+ yard drive by ALA that tied the game and then led to completely different field position. Then the disasterous catch by Arenus on the kickoff changed momentum towards FLA. Probably the biggest momentum swing was that facemask by ALA on 3rd down that kept a FLA TD drive alive. I'm just glad I didn't have to find out if FLA goes for it on 4th and 2. Overall, both teams played great D and the offenses were effective. FLA is missing a tremendous amount of key player on both sides of the ball and still pull it off. They are a deserving team and ALA was a tremendous opponent.
Big12 - is there anyway OKL can lose this game (6:17 1st Qtr now). Yes, the last time they played in KC, Kan St. stuck it to them, but I don't see it tonight. Maybe Mizzou is pissed about last year though; there playing tough right now.
What have you guys observed; what do you think about FLA as objective viewers?

IMO, Fla is the best team in the country right now, especially with Harvin healthy. I was surprised Bama stayed in the game as long as they did; they have more speed than I thought.
The no TO before half was strange. I got to think it was a mistake.
Early in the game, it looked like Bama was going to rough up the Gators. Tebow wasn't passing well on the small ball stuff and the run was getting stuffed. But, a couple of nice deliveries on the long ball and that really changed the game.
On D, Fla over-pursued and was getting schooled with the bootleg. Also happened on a big run when the middle LB ran himself out of the play. Does this happen a lot, or was this the result of a commitment to stop the Bama rush game? Late in the game, a big sack as the bama QB tried to side step.
Good game time adjustments by Fla.
All said, two great teams, fitting championship game.
ACC, didn't watch, don't care.
SEC, watching now, but expect it to be over soon. Not enough talent in the B12 north to make this a worthy championship game. Hope Ok wins, because I would hate to see a third BCS championship game with non-conference winner, Texas.
Mizzou just scored, so not over yet.

SEC: Well I must say that I was pretty impressed with Florida this year, they really started playing on another level after that Ole Miss game. Personally I thought Alabama, even though they were an undefeated #1, wasn't all that great. They were a great team, don't get me wrong, but I didn't see them getting past Florida. With that said though, it was still a good game. I only got to watch the 2nd half because I was at work.
Big 12: As for the Big 12, I was hoping Mizzou was going to put up a better fight against Oklahoma. I stopped watching at the end of the first half, that interception pretty much sealed the deal for OU. I'm looking forward to a National Championship Showdown between OU and Florida (assuming that they both get picked).
ACC: As far as the ACC championship game, I didn't have any plans to watch it. I did check the conference standings earlier today and all the teams are hovering around .500, if anyone was wondering.
Bowl Season is shaping up to be a good one this year, hopefully we'll have a better idea of who is playing where after the BCS selections are made tomorrow.

The only game I've really gotten to see today is the B12 championship. But nevertheless here is my take.
ACC: who cares, no one of any note played. This shows a rule needs instituted that a BCS conference champ needs to be ranked X high, say top 20 to get an auto BCS berth.
SEC: Florida is the real deal. Bama was good but not experienced enough to overcome UF.
B12: Like FLorida, Oklahoma is just playing out of their minds right now. Is there a game on? Because thi slooks like bloodbath to me.
MNC: I really am looking forward to this year's game as I think both teams bring exciting offenses to the table. Should be a great one and there should be some very good matchups occuring in the other BCS bowls as well.

LAMfan,
I admit I was extremely impressed by the ALA offensive attack today. Their running attack is for real. They have mountains on the line and several respectable backs. To hear Urban tell it, FLA's key objective on D is to always stop the run. With that said, ALA was chewing up 10 yrd chuncks at a time, especially after that first big catch by Jones loosened them up. FLA had to respect the run and that really opened up the play action pass. I'm going to watch the game again tonight, as I'm still not sure how FLA pulled it together. It was expected, however, that once FLA put ALA in a ten point hole we would bring the pressure. I predicted to my wife our first pick of the game minutes before it happened. My honest thoughts are that if J. Jenkins had guarded J. Jones all night, ALA would have had much less success in the passing game. If they hadn't had that big drive to tie it up 7-7, things could have gotten out of hand. FLA is a good team, but they are simply devastating once they build a two score lead.

you know after watching both of those games yesterday ,i still think the best team in the country is not playing in the national title game, this team im talkin about plays around with their opposition and games end up much closer then they should, they play big in big games and have the best giggggg in the nation, boys that team would be one USC and our big10 rep is going to find out in the rose bowl, this team would beat fla or texas and okl, and whats scareeeee is that most of that team will be back next season , they are 3 deep at every position and have the best class this year with only 16 recruits.. our boy ronald johnson is playing much more and will be every thing we thought he would be if michigan had got him,

This is why we need a playoff. It it so frustrating the way the BCS manipulates everything. It is little better than voting for your favorite team.
There are several teams that can win it all if played on the field, instead its a popularity contest with the SEC being the darlings of the media. In truth the SEC has two strong teams this year that can win it all, the Big 12 has 3. The SEC is not as strong as it was last year. Texas got cheated, plain and simple. The head to head did not matter to the BCS. Florida and Oklahoma should be a game full of fireworks. I'll be rooting for the Gators but the betting man in me has not come to a conclusion yet. Both can score gobs of points equally so I will have to research their defenses and whoever has is best in this catagory should win the game. Texas is going to totally demolish the Buckeyes. If the Buckeyes are given 7 points or less on the spread, bet the farm on the Horns! They will win by 14-21 points.

i agree the system stinks and your correct osu gets their butts handed to them for the 3rd year in a row. and so does penn/state

Gator,
Good thread - and some good comments.
Florida is very impressive. I thought Bama put up a good fight, but the lack of an effective passing attack caught up with them. Florida's a solid representative in the MNC game.
Oklahoma looks solid on O, and I still believe is quite questionable on D. Missouri put up a fight for the first quarter and that was about it.
I can't imagine how Texas fans are feeling right now - and, as a few have said, the Horns should have been playing Mizzou. But, the BS - oops, I mean BCS - being what it is, the Big 12 administators unwillingness to take responsibility for a difficult decision (by their tie breaking rules) - and lack of a reasonable post season is more frustrating than ever.
USC is playing good football - but, they'll be in Pasadena. PSU - I like what they can do, and on a neutral field could probably hang with Oklahoma - because of PSU's D, but in the Rose Bowl - USC's backyard, a win will be VERY tough.
I do think that Florida's quite deserving to play in the MNC. To be fair - I also believe that Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and PSU are as well....
So - the Florida - Oklahoma MNC game has got a lot of potential...

I totally agree if osu is 9 points or less, I'm dropping a grand on texas. EASY money.
