Today's lesson involves not running up the score by using an injured player.......because he will die. To appease the fans, Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne sends star George Gipp and his separated left shoulder in for the waning seconds of a game against Northwestern. Gipp, from punt formation, throws a school-record 70-yard touchdown pass to Norman Barry in the 33-7 victory. Three weeks later, Gipp died of strep throat and pneumonia. After he passed away, he never played for Notre Dame again. There's a lesson there for all of us.

Yeah, but if he didn't die we wouldn't have had the sweet sports cliche of "Win one for the Gipper". So, there's that.
