Besides opting for the Bush era policy to not release the names of people who visit the white house, he's pulled a double whammy by :

Not only was Walpin's firing against the law, but Obama has now removed the inspector general who by all accounts (democrats and republicans) was doing a fine job. As this position has not been filled and apparently won't be, this leaves a vaccum of oversight into how grant money given to "community organizations" will be managed.
The ultimate irony in all this is Walpin was given his notice by the Special Counsel to the President for Ethics and Government Reform. It's like I'm reading "1984" in real time.
Irony Part 2: Obama was a co-sponsor of the Inspector General's Reform Act. Which was meant to protect IGs from political winds. Not even 2 days later, Obama's white house attorney called the firing an "act of political courage".
