I spent my July 4th weekend on Camp Lejeune Marine base visting my father inlaw and cousin. I asked them their thoughts on people like me that oppose the war in Iraq. Their response was that is your opinion but please just don't be a jerk to soldiers or Marines that are following orders. I then asked about people like you Gator that are rah rah war and lets sends them here and there and everywhere but have never served themselves. Direct quote "easy for them to say from their safe homes but many of us just want it to be over and be home with our families too, perhapes they should take our places".

I may get tarred and feathered for this but my first choice of school was not Michigan, it was West Point. I was sponsored by Duncan Hunter and passed the physical (they do crazy physicals, mine was 5-6 hours) but later was rejected for a curved spine and Osgood Slaughter's disease in my knees. They told me in order to qualify for admission I would need to get both issues fixed (surgery).

We didn't have the money and that was that. I'll never regret ending up at Michigan though, good times.

Some of us were just unable to serve Zilla. Quit being so quick to judge people you know nothing about (ie. no more excuses). I instead help out with http://www.operationhomefront.net/ which has a huge presence here in San Diego.

I didn't have one problem with us going into Afganistan, and ,truthfully, I was glad we were going at that time (most solid evidence you have for calling me a warmonger). If I had it to do over (with 20/20 hindsight), I would not have gone to war with Iraq. However, at the time we had intelligence (which we didn't know was bad) that indicated that Saddam had WMDs. Hell, we knew he had them at some point (unless you believe the 5,000 people he gased to death was part of a make believe story). IMO, the burden of proof (according to a shitload of UN resolutions) was on Saddam to show he had dismantled or disposed of the weapons. Does that seem reasonable to you? At that time and in that post 9-11 climate, I don't regret us going in there one fucking bit, not with the way Saddam was stonewalling everyone. Once we were there and had caused a regime change, we couldn't leave without setting up some form of government, and that's just the way it is! Does that make me a warmonger? As far as Iran and NK go, I really hope we don't have to go to war. IMO, it is a fool who enjoys war and moves hastily into it. On the other hand, there is a cold hard reality that some people in this world hate other types of people for just being. Some people have visions of grandure and want to rule the whole damn world. Who knows what makes these people tick, but they do exist....and that is a fucking fact. Now common sense would seem to suggest that the time to deal with this problem is while you have military units in the area and Iran is not a nuclear power (of course, you know my opinion on liberals - they seem to be a little short on common sense). I'm not even suggesting war, I'm saying it is time to make some hard calls on santions and negotiations to show we are serious. If they want to escalate the situation at that time, that's the way it has to be because we cannot afford them getting neclear weapons. My problem with liberals (who I would suggest are the real cowards) is that they would prefer we just stick our damn head in the sand. Hell, these people don't even want to admit that we have a problem. How does that common sense analysis rely one bit on my bravery or enlistment in the military?

And what makes you so damn special so that you decide what the fuck someone else's part is, you bumbling fucking idiot!? It just so happens that I gave serious consideration to joining the Navy's Nuclear Submarine Program when I was nearing completion of my B.S. degree (yeah, I know chickenhawk, right?). I admit that my college funding was running low and I was worried about how I would find the funds to finish school. Dedication to my county also played heavily into my thinking. You know who talked me out of it? My family. Yep, the same people who have served for years in military and law enforcement service. Their reasons? If you believe that wars are not only fought on the battle field but also in the laboratory with research (e.g., SMARTbombs, Missle Defense Networks, etc..), my family seems to think I will make much greater contributions there. In fact, I am torn to this day as to what kind of job I will take. Part of me thinks I could perform some national service in a defense position, but I also really like helping people and have alway been interested in inventing better medical equipment. Maybe I will end up doing a bit of both.

Now about that other cousin I mentioned, well actually second cousing but maybe the most inspiring person I ever met. After over 8 years of medical school and completing his residency, the cat drops everything and joins the Army. Not only that, the guy doesn't tell him he's a full-blown doctor because he doesn't want any special treatment. (Yeah, my friends and family are just full of fucking cowards, you cocksucker). Personally, I think he could serve the military better by using the obviously in-demand skills that he has. Anyone that is willing to give their opinion on how to make the country better loves their country. Also, attacking Clinton, Bush, Obama, etc.... sure in the hell doesn't make you a bad American.
